I commuted on a bike since the 60's and always wore a helmet (open face only then - my first was an Everoak Clubman if I remember correctly). Wind and rain in the winter was no joke, so when full-face lids became generally available, I got one and wore them ever since.

Until I retired and bought my Bonnie T120 - no riding in rain unless by accident or I had to, no commuting, easy bimbling about, so I bought a Shark open-face, mainly for the look of course. Got caught in a couple of rain storms and quickly bought a Shoei Qwest which I now wear most of the time - the open face hasn't been out for a while now, but come the summer and if the sun shines, then it might get another airing. Yes it's not as safe etc. but it's my choice and I know the risks.

I have an ARAI XC open face. Great helmet. It has better protection than any other open face on the market. Not cheap though. I got mine on line for $465 US.
