That is a REALLY nice blend of subtle engineering and aesthetic modification of a nice bike. Nicely thought out, well executed and very well presented. Kudos to you, Sir.

As a purely personal preference, I'd have blacked the headlight mounting brackets to match the clamps to the stanchions. Nitpicking, I know, when everything else is SO nice!

    Hey Les.

Contrary to some opinion, black doesn't make it any quicker ..... ;)

Seriously, it was just a personal opinion/observation. It's YOUR bike and what you have done is outstanding. However, I'll look forward to seeing some more pictures (try taking some from lower shot angles, please :)) when it's finished!

Can I ask, How did you find out how much to take off, did you measure the wheels and compare or measure the twin wheel and the gap?

I measured both set ups from outside of the brake discs Speed Triple R 128mm and the speed Twin 132mm so i bought a set of spoked wheels and removed 7mm from each side of the hubs/disc mounts

The red highlighted surface is OEM and the green highlighted surface is after 7mm has been machined off the hub discs mounts, allowing me to fit the spokes to the Speed Twin

Adie black doesn't make it go faster, i have used the black & white chequered tape in the past it added 3.74 MPH to my Raleigh Chopper (downhill)

I think you have done a fantastic job there it looks really good I expect triumph will bring out a r version next year looking very similar and no doubt it handles better than my speed twin but I prefer the look of the standard forks with the gators.I just like the retro look:)

Thanks Bob, i think you are right i can see triumph bringing a R version out 2021 possibly with Showa front & Ohlin's rear, i on the other hand I prefer the Ohlin's set up front & rear.

The bike is great OEM, I just like my bikes to have a bit of a twist

A limited number of lads have started back at the company were i work, including lads in the engineering/machine shop, so i had a couple of front mudguard brackets on the plasma in 0.7mm 304 matt finish stainless steel, to try them on the bike, just a couple of alterations ie; rotate the lateral centre line on the bracket were it attaches to the mudguard by +2mm, and close the mounting holes by 1 mm

I think i will paint them black along with the headlight brackets

I would think they are bringing an "R" version out for 2021, with different paint and possibly Showa/Ohlin's suspension set up.

It will be interesting to see if they are going to bring a "R" version out as it may encroach on Thruxton sales, I test rode the Thruxton before the Speed Twin and as you probably have guessed that the Speed Twin is the better bike for me.

Ah, just checked it. It's a recognised term that generally seems to refer to people rather than inanimate objects. I don't think that means actually changing colour (a bit tricky) but altering ones behaviour, dress, language, attitudes etc to become more like your own interpretation (real or imagined) of what's it means to be a black person. Hmm, seems a strange thing to do but as we all know there's no accounting for what goes on in people's heads.
So I'm not sure whether using the term 'blackification' in reference to a motorbike is more or less PC than 'blacked-out' but we all know what you mean. Anyway, words get hijacked all the time..a bit like I'm doing to your suspension thread :p. I'll stop now.
