Yes, I can think of two reasons the Air Ambulance might not want government funding:

- since the government purse is finite, they might worry about what cuts occur elsewhere, maybe in healthcare/NHS, to fund Air Ambulance
- with government funding comes political interference. They probably don't fancy being a political football

But your heart is in the right place, so don't beat yourself up. I'd have supported that too until you said they might not want government funding, and it caused me to think about it.
