I am just a bit worried that the last time Carl Fogarty was involved with the marketing of a triple it did not go that well... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Petronas_FP1
I'd like new bodywork, something along the lines of what Six Monkeys did a while ago. But maybe a bit more sports touring than full on sports. Look what kawasaki has done with the z1000sx and that's very popular. They can still run with a naked version, just like the kwacker!!
I think that was called the SprintST .... Unfortunately Triumph axed that (I used to have one). May be you should be looking at a Tiger Sport? I'm happy with my Speed Triple 94R for 95% of the time, but would be tempted by the Tiger Sport for 2-up touring if SWMBO let me have 2 bikes (she just has to keep up on her Street III for now).
I test rode a street, speed and sport consecutively along the same route and felt like goldilocks. One was too small, one too big (and baggy) and one just right. And while I could feel the family resemblance between Street and speed, the sport felt decades older, comfy and forgiving rather than taut and responsive. I agree that something like the sprint would fit the gap but I can't be convinced the sport is a faired speed. Like I say, kawasaki have a sales success with their z1000 naked and touring versions. Looks like an easy decision to me
Agree Kawasaki are well engineered motorcycles (had a ZZR600 and ZX6 many moons ago) and I've given them consideration as they are the only dealer close to my home...........but I just can't bring myself to be seen on a motorcycle that looks like some Transformer toy my grand kids would play with. Just a generation thing I guess.
If the new model is a vast improvement over the current one I would be tempted to trade mine in, but it would need to be getting a lot more than just a tft screen!
It's official the Triumph Speed Triple RS will be getting released soon. Spoke to a Triumph service technician today from a dealership and he said he's been to a inside company launch of the new Speed Triple RS the other day. He said it will have the full electronics package: TFT screen, cornering ABS etc. Sounds like there will be some engine mods to increase HP Following link has a bit more info http://www.motorcycle.com/manufactu...peed-triple-rs-confirmed-in-carb-filings.html Triumph will make it official to the press and public on Monday 29th January with the details
Does anyone know when the press release is? Edit** just had a look on triumphs website for press release, states 5th February.
http://www.triumphmotorcycles.co.uk/ultimate-hooligan Look closely, you can see it's an RS (1 min 30 secs) Mentions 5th February.
It does look meaner doesn't it! Release date is 5th Feb...Ooohhhh But will it be worth the price tag? I reckon the differences would be most noticeable in the electronics - TFT display - Cornering ABS/Traction control - Power delivery maps Aesthetics seems to be: - Black forks - Grey subframe under the seat (was red) - Graphics on the radiator cowl Stills from the teaser clip TFT Screen a bit bright in the dark, I hope the brightness is adjustable 5 Spoke wheel
There are graphics on the tank too (although I'm not a fan of graphics...I think they disturb the 'mean' look). Possibly on the fly screen too. The paintwork looks like Matt Phantom Black...love it! Plus... Carbon (maybe?) shrouds on the Arrow cans. Black levers.
Think we've seen those black Ohlins forks somewhere before... That'll be my 2015 94R then. And those 5 spoke wheels look familiar... That'll be the forged PVM's Triumph fitted to R's circa 2014 (as seen on Dougie D's) Mmmmm.......not so new then?
