Thanks for the POF lesson @Kenbro, I've only been a professional helicopter pilot for 29 years ;);)
Figured for the purposes of explaining to a motorbike forum it was easier to keep the explanation simple but effectively relevant and easy to understand, clearly you feel differently :p:p
Maybe we could try forces on a blade in autorotation next or dynamic rollover :p:p

Ooooooh ..... "dynamic rollover" please. And why a heli can't fly inverted .........

Seriously - both of you - thanks for the explanation(s), most helpful and informative. :):)

    Thanks, but no thanks.
    Helmut Visor,
    This wasn’t about helicopters, but,
You said it was easier to keep the explanation ‘simple ( Because it’s a motorbike forum) but effectively relevant’, and then start by saying ‘In an autogyro or helicopter, if drive to the rotors fails.’....... That’s not simple, or effective, just plain wrong.
    Regards,Ken.

Seeing as how the thread is now about light aircraft, I wonder if you could zoom down and trigger a speed camera, with your microlite/gyrocopter whatever? Might be a laugh. Lol. :imp:

No. A165 between Filey and Brid between the two roundabouts. Primrose valley at the bottom , the Dotterel pub at the top (the one with the plastic shepherd and sheep). Lol.

Aaaaahh! Not one of my regular routes (actually, none of 'em are at the moment!) but I know where you mean. Been a while since I went that way. Might have to re-acquaint myself with it when all this covid malarky settles down. Thanks for the info - duly noted.:)

Talking about the stretch you mentioned on the A614, I've noticed (pre lockdown of course) that the Camera van likes to position itself a mile or two back towards the roundabout with the A1079. My daughter lives in Barmby on the Marsh, so we get along the A614 quite regularly, Middleton on the wolds, Bainton and Holme are its other regular haunts together with the one I'm sure you know, on the approach to Howden itself.

Yep! Seen 'em in all those places you mentioned. Plus, I'm always careful when I get within a few miles of Seaways at Fridaythorpe and Wetwang. Similarly with the approaches to Squires. Don't give 'em bullets to fire is my theory.

Military Helicopter pilots have to pass an Emergency no power landing test .

They put the gear box in neutral. Then the Helicopter 'falls' under NO Lift Conditions , they have to reverse the pitch of the rotor blades , the blades pick up rotational speed , they then have to pull it into the 'lift pitch' just in time to expend all that energy stored and stop the copter or nearly so just above ground level ... A fail is not being able to get out under your own steam :dizzy::scream::kissing_heart::);)

So just to bring it back on track. Today for as long as I can remember the police were outside my drive with a speed gun. Had a chat with them and they said a significant number of cars were speeding. Yep told them no need to tell me I know they do. Anyway they were there for an hour. I was sat just inside the drive having a cuppa and noticed that they had moved on. Yep within minutes cars were blasting down and up the road again... grrrr
