Yeah, but I didn't realise it's a fact based drama verging on documentary.

    Here's another one:
    https://www.edinburghnews.scotsman....ts-prompt-edinburgh-tourism-warning-1-4949655

Very common in Edinburgh, as was just stealing any bike last couple of years.

Edinburgh Clowncil won't want to provide any warnings, as it could come across to tourists that Edinburgh is not a nice place to stay and avoid. Can't be having that, as tourists are more important than residents to Edinburgh Clowncil.
So they'll more likely take the approach of say nothing, deny it's a problem, and deflect to ooh, shiny festivals!

I believe it's the second worst in the UK.

It may be a bit harsh, but give thieves the option either a hand or a foot and chop the bugger off. I despise these scumbag thieves who rob from people who have worked hard to pay for their things. It’s getting worse and something needs to be done.
I regret now being so cavalier about not locking up Waspy more securely whilst on our recent Scottish tour. I will do so now especially when visiting the UK.
Over here it seems to be scooters which are the target of thieves (and bicycles)

It's unbelievable the amount of times I've read in the news of somebody having spent numberous months on a round the world trip by motorbike or bicycle, only to have their bike stolen pretty much as soon as they return home.
All these supposed 'dangerous' and 'unfriendly' countries they ride through, but it's their own home country that is the worst.

...how did they manage to get the bike so quickly. I see the thief kicking the bars to break the steering lock, but can't see any sparks from power tools etc. to cut the lock, and how did they start the engine?

Ancient scum techniques, passed down for hundreds of generations, such as the 'arcing foot bar buster' or the more advanced 'open palmed lock splitter'.

Honestly, I'm not sure exactly, but I could think of a few things that may work to bust a lock without power tools. If it's just a basic disc lock, they aren't that great at security, more a deterent to the casual thief. Not sure about starting it though.

Any major city is pretty much t'same nowadays, and not just int UK. I remember int early 80's, we called into Amsterdam ont way back from t'Dutch TT. My CB900 was secured to my mates GSX1100 with a wire slinging rope, which we used to use down t'pit for hanging conveyors, and a lock. When we came back to our hotel from our night out, his bike was gone. We split up and ran (wobbled) around and a local told us he'd seen someone pushing a bike about 10 mins earlier. We found it parked behind a van, int next street. We pushed it back, and he spent t'rest ot night asleep ont kerb, with his arm through t'front wheel!!:eyes:

    Absolutely great news.
Not too sure I would want my bike back after scrotes might have thrashed it around.
Also, would it be uneconomical to repair that damage from an insurance perspective?
    Regards,Ken.

Great result. Just goes to show that if the police put in the resources they can catch the b@stards.
