Hello DBH, The "other" bike in your picture has pretty much as much heritage as your own... considering where you are heading, I don't think there's much "showing them what a real bike is!" You've painted a rich picture, I hope you enjoy the journey to celebrate your friend... it's not what you ride, the speed you go, how hard you ram the corners. It isn't even how wonderful your final destination is... what counts is how happy this makes you; enjoy what you have whilst you have it... share with your friends the movement of time and place in a likeminded, fun experience. 36 (or 18) is no middle age crisis... you're always at the end of your life until the next day proves you wrong. This world has a lot to offer, grab it whilst you can! Have fun dude
Hi and welcome... The Thunderbird is a great choice of bike. Ride enjoy and remember the memories, they will last a life time Wessa

Damn, I was dead chuffed with my adventure over to the Isle of Wight a week or so ago. I am now thinking its time to do something more serious as your trip sounds like a real hoot! Upload a few photos please and make sure they are more exciting than these! I still haven't got around to buying any aluminium panniers - a black plastic bin bag has to suffice
