Day #5: Las Vegas, NV to Tucson, AZ (approximately 450 miles)

The map of this leg of our trip is at the end of this post--twice--as I can't get it to load correctly. Ahh, technology! Or, "anti"-technology?

We headed home today after a terrific trip to Las Vegas Bike Fest and are already looking forward to next year--and to including several more riding buddies who weren't able to attend this time around.

We hit the road just after 8:00AM and had beautiful weather and smooth sailing all the way home. Our buddy, Russel, opted to head north rather than south all by his lonesome. He rode up into Utah and reported did some amazing rides including some miles through Bryce Canyon. The rest of us went south down through Kingman, Wickenburg, and Phoenix to home sweet home.

Today's ride was relatively uneventful--but in a good way. Good temps, minimal traffic, little wind, smooth running motorcycles.

Coming out of Las Vegas you ride through the Lake Mead Recreation Area. We didn't stop for pics for here's a bit about this beautiful but surreal area.

Another area we ride through on this route back to Tucson from Vegas is a stretch between Wikiup Trading Post and Wickenburg, AZ call the Joshua Tree Parkway. It's truly one of my favorite 75-mile or so stretch of riding roadway anywhere! Here's a photo from Arizona Highways and a link to the short article about this beautiful place.

Speaking of Arizona Highways, Mr. Sandi had read an article in that magazine recently that featured a sandwich joint in one of our usual stops, Wickenburg, AZ. The three of us decided to check it out. Stellar! This little lunch joint, The Local Press, is now on our "must do" list every time we ride to or through Wickenburg. A bit pricey but well worth it. I love grilled cheese sandwiches and have had hundreds of them in scores of places over the years. This one was the hands-down the best! Homemade rosemary butter slathered on the outside of the sourdough bread and homemade fig jam on the inside melted into the yummy gooey three cheese concoction. :yum

We were not the only ones eager to stop at The Local Press. Javier the Javelina was pretty excited to stop for a bit in Wickenburg too.

Ahhhh, and finally---home! All told our mileage was just over 1,000 miles. A lovely little jaunt and lots of adventure in Las Vegas!

Annie, the Boxer, was very happy to see us when we arrived home after being gone for five days. But after an enthusiastic welcome home, she was also very happy to go back to her nap. ;) Thanks for joining me on my Las Vegas Bike Fest adventures! Hope you enjoyed the "ride". :grinning:

Great write-ups, thanks, Sandi. Brings back some memories, too. I went to Las Vegas a couple of times in the nineties (o_O), and agree with you - a few days is tolerable! I envy your riding buddy going to Bryce - stunning scenery and roads. On one of my trips I went to Zion as well. I would love to take a bike there!

You're welcome, Adie! Thanks for your kind comments. It was a fun process to take, select, and post photos and write up stories and commentary on them for the forum. :) Glad you enjoyed it!!

I LOVE good bike nights! You'd think we'd have loads of those in Tucson but, alas, that's unfortunately not the case. Nothing like socializing with a bunch of motorcyclists over a pint and looking at bikes! That's my kind of "date". ;)

Bloody hell! I remember going to a holiday camp in Mablethorpe as a kid (probably 1968 or 9) - more like a WWII POW camp! :D:D

Thanks for the feedback, Vulpes. I have fun doing the write-ups. Yeah, Bryce. We're eager to go there along with Zion. Mr. Sandi and I have not yet been to southern Utah whether by car or by bike. It's very high on our ride trip bucket list! Thanks for adding a little fuel to that fire. :) Maybe next fall?? You could come join us!! :)

Thanks, David! Maybe you need to come join me and Mr. Sandi and our little crew sometime and experience our trips with us in person! BTW, I'm going away again...TOMORROW MORNING! :p Mr. Sandi and I are going to Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Flying this time, though. We had two unused airline tickets that had to be used by this weekend (Annie, the boxer, surgery involved--another story for another time).

Anyway, we've wanted to go to the Harley-Davidson Museum since a bunch of folks in the past five years have told us we absolutely have to go. Neither of us has been to Milwaukee anyway, so we figured what the heck? We have airline tickets and a long weekend, so here we go. I'm thinking maybe another forum sharing. Will everyone be tired of me sharing about my (non) Triumph experiences?? Yes, I actually DO own a TRIUMPH Speed Triple. :joy::joy: Which is how I "stumbled" onto this fabulous forum in the first place. :)
