It is dangerous, obviously, but having accurate information is essential. Journalists on the ground are not aggressors and not a threat to anyone, other than to those who want to suppress the truth. They shouldn't be targetted. If they are, it isn't combat, it's murder.

Not really harsh. John Simpson is a typical BBC superior type who is always right and can do no wrong. He took his cameraman into a dangerous area thinking he was immune. That action left a man dead, a wife without a husband and kids without a Dad.

A shocking event that rams home the dangers of war.

The amount of soldiers who have lost their lives or been injured saving inept, unequipped, poorly planned and ill informed journalists and private security contractors is ridiculous and unacceptable. Add to this they are paid considerably less for the privilege and it gets beyond showing any respect at all, they are self serving idiots who put themselves there for their own personal gains and cry for the professionals when it all goes wrong for them

We have drones now and clear satellite pictures so no need for news people to be in there

Agreed, but drones can't interview people and I haven't seen any drone images, probably either side Ukrainian or Russian would shoot them down if seen.

Something I haven't noticed commented in the media I follow, is what will happen with Russia's frozen assets abroad when all this is over. I vote for repair and compensation in Ukraine.
On a different note, you know it must be really bad when the TALIBAN call on Russia and Ukraine to 'resolve the crisis through peaceful means'.

If your running about in a war zone in a foreign country you have to expect incidents like this. Scary stuff when you see it from the receiving end! Have to agree about the rescue effort, seems like a waste of resources and unnecessary risks for stupid actions that should have been avoided in the first place.

Yes agree and disagree. Do think they were risking a lot for a story where they should have stayed behind the lines and been clearly marked. But the better the story the better sales.

I seen somebody make a fair point elsewhere. Why the hell are we still sending aid to India while they refuse to condem what Putin is doing.

I'm guessing that "aid" is some kind of bribe.
