    So imagine a swing-o-meter...
90deg left is full on Socialism/Democrat, 90deg right is full on Conservatism/Republican...
Somewhere in the middle ground (0deg) is the liberal/moderate section which appears (by popular voicing) to be regarded as the unsafe, hand-wringing dupes with a “give in to all” stance (and a destructive tendency to over-compensate to marginal demands)

What range of the swing-o-meter is the “to be trusted” segment? From which portion is the current threat coming?

Out of fairness, personally I suspect I vary on different days from about 30degs to 50degs right!
Does that make me a bitch or a tw@t??? I hope not! I suspect I become one of them when my ideals have been repeated f¥€<Ed in the arse... but as there are quite a few expressing their discontent at current events (and the reinterpreting of historic events) can we generalise portions of the swing-o-meter as good or bad... or is it purely down to the individual?

DC I think you may need another couple of dimensions to encompass the characters I’m thinking of:p
And I still don’t really understand what a snowflake is - Liberal chattering classes I get:) except they aren’t really liberal though:(

Again, being fair... those qualities apply to certain characters of the far right and the far left!

In my view anyone more than +5 degrees to the left is the problem, and anymore than +10 degrees to the left is dangerous. Whereas from +1 degree to the right usually means open minded, moral, fair, and informed, the last 10 degrees to the right is not so inclusive and only the last 5 degrees to the right could be considered dangerous.

Just my own personal opinion, and based on my own interactions with others. I don't remember ever knowing anyone who considered themselves left wing that was politically open minded or fair of judgement, they have always considered their opinion superior and usually driven by emotion rather than evidence or fact, quite often inheriting their political view point from their parents without ever questioning it.

That’s interesting, UKTV banned and reinstated but always available on Netflix and Amazon prime - BBC not streaming the series anyway
    Anyone use UKTV?

I can only really go off my experiences DD, and it’s that the more extreme your politics, the bigger chance that you’re gonna act like a c#nt, demand that your politics are the only way and walk over anyone to get there.
Thanks @MadMrB for actually using the swing-o-meter. That’s a nice description! Do you feel that the “far left” maybe the drivers, but know How to push the buttons of the moderate left to gain significant numbers to their cause?

Side note- look at Wikipedia page M4BL and the demands of this group (which include the black lives matter movement) they state in their goals that they want an unequal, black weighted society... at least that’s how I read it

    Oh Dear
I understand entirely why he's leaving.
I share his left leaning liberal mindset and can also get pretty fed up with the bigotry and denigration of others that I see,on this and in other forums.
But it's also true of life and our society in general...all that's happening is that it's in print rather than conversation.
I've learned to live with it and, above all, not take my own mindset as the only ' correct' way to be.
We will be the poorer for his going.

Yes I agree the majority on the left are being played by the insidious far-left, because as I said previously I believe most on the left function based on emotions without questioning or requiring evidence. Since Tony Blair's government (and maybe before) many organisations both public and private have been infested with far-left activists, by groups like Momentum and using tools such as Common Purpose.

As an example of not questioning, you only have to do some very simple and quick research on BLM to discover they are nothing to do with equality and fairness.

There are some (very few) on the left that I have respect for. I like and respect the former MP Kate Hoey, whilst I would not agree with some of her views, I believe she is an intelligent and genuine person, and I believe she has honour. I hate that MPs are referred to as "honourable" because very very few of them have any honour at all IMO, regardless of them being left or right, and Liberal Democrats are just scum with not an atom of honour amongst them :p

you sound like a fair and even minded dude, there has been some heavy finger pointing at your moderate ideological Stance (and mine too I’ve often felt) So I’m trying to examine what’s going on here... I find it hard to believe a moderate, centrist ideology would want chaos, anger, spite and division in the country... so who is whipping up the masses and why? I’d rather discuss it in an open forum like this and furnish my opinions from sifting the bs and rhetoric from nuggets of useful information than rely solely on media outlets that grind axes for their own means.

Is that the point though that when the moderate centre gets squeezed it starts pushing back
Lots going on now makes me angry on both sides:
Police killing someone in broad daylight made me angry
People claiming someone not recognising them in parliament is racist made me angry
Having statues of slavers made me angry
Having to board up Churchill’s statue and the Cenotaph makes me angry
Are we going to have to change the name of Trafalgar Square and Waterloo Station because it offends the French?
So it looks like I’m a pissed off with everyone:( and I have no idea where I fit now...

Why get angry/pissed off over something you have no control over and never will.

Whatever happens it's out of our control isn't it.

    We all bleed red.
Listening and understanding others is the first step in loving your neighbor. Leave all the political rubbish behind, as it is there to instill fear and anger against others. It's the fellow you work with, or the person you meet on a ride. Hear what they have to say and search for the truth.

As a younger person, I was always a labour support and left wing in my viewpoint, now however I’m very definitely on the right. The Labour Party appalls me, the destruction of statues disgusts me, the country (UK) is not the country it was when I was growing up and that is a great shame. When I was little you stood up on the bus to let an older person sit down, sadly that doesn’t happen any more. It’s the same here too by the way. People are just selfish and only think of themselves. Thankfully I do remember the good days and how it was before, but younger people don’t have that. I’d happily go back to those days without internet, cell phones, gps navigation and all the rest of today’s must haves.
There I’ve said my piece now.
