Actually Dave, you’re right and also they are considerably lighter than my VStrom. Two good reasons to get a Himalayan. But whilst I can still manage Waspy, I’ll stick with him.

A women called Steph jeavons did 50.000 miles in 4 countries on a Honda crf250l , I know royal Enfields have come on but something like a Honda crf250l would be a lot more reliable I’d say and probably faster, my mate has one and it will do 65 mph all day with 65-70 mpg, there’s some brave girls out there when you have a look on the net.

I couldn’t consider one of those as it’d be far too high for me. Wouldn’t bother me about it being a 250 though. Suzuki do a 250 VStrom

I think it’s also down to how comfortable the bike is for the rider with living in the saddle for so long.

One of the things for me is as has been said already the RE Himy engine is fairly simple and servicing could be done on the side of the road, even valve check and adjustment as they’re screw and locknut.

Just before my Arctic Trip, I had Waspy serviced and watched the mechanic. Getting to the back cylinder wasn’t easy and I think they have 2 plugs per cylinder just to complicate things even more. It looked a right faff to do. So not really ideal.

She has an awesome channel, the current C19 issues have put a spanner in the works for her though sadly.

Thankfully she made it back home again. Just in time if you ask me. Looked a bit dodgy at the end

This is why I am surprised she choose a Royal Enfield. I've got a bullet and it's a pile of crap. Dare not go out on it. All I can say the later ones must be really good, I dont know, but will check them out at main dealer when they open up again.

Another Royal Enfield Himalayan but a new one this time due to the problems with the 1st one being not registered in her own name.

I think it was BIKE magazine had a discussion with several world travellers which included the thought that no world traveller ever complained his bike was too small.

Noraly has explained her reasons for choosing the Himalayan, seat height was a major factor as I recall.

    Her channel is recommended viewing.

From what I’ve been reading Malcolm royal Enfield have come on especially the new twin which look nice at £5600,from what has been said seat height is one of the main reasons for choosing a Himalayan,I’ve done plenty off roading which has learned me you need to be able to get your feet down when the going gets tricky and electric start is a must.

I am amazed at the level of non knowledge of Enfields on this forum! I have been keeping a beady eye on the Himalayan since it came out. Early reviews were mixed, basically the journos thought it was underpowered and being an Enfield would fall to pieces and depreciate like a Lada. Gradually the tone changed as more people took the plunge and bought them. Enfield also upped the spec by giving it fuel injection and ABS. They are apparently pretty comfy and happy to cruise at 65 - 70mph. Weight is carried low so very easy to manage and very easy to service. Nathan Millward rode one across the USA, Noraly has done 60,000km on them and they just seem to keep going. Bike journos are now singing their praises. If I were planning a round the world trip I would choose one over a GS or a Tiger. This guy rode one from Seattle to Alaska.

And around 2000 Euros cheaper than the Honda WRF250. To me it’s a no brainer. This is Noraly’s second RE and just as reliable and robust as the first one. If I hadn’t already got my VStrom and was looking for one of these sorts of bikes, I’d be down the RE dealers. Noraly has proven them to be great.

I do like this model and I think his comments go a long way to dispel some remarks on the latest quality, we all know they will be built down to a cost but it seems so are all bikes these days

I have been following Noraly for a long time now and completely agree with your roundup.
    Also, don't forget that you can also help her by donating some money for petrol or even buying a neck tube perhaps on her website;

While on the subject of Royal Enfield I remember a few weeks back in mcn we’re royal Enfield have extended everyone’s warranty by 3 months because of Coronavirus, I’ve not heard of any other bike manufacturers doing the same, my wife has a newish car which she got free breakdowns cover and they’ve extended that cover for 3 months.

I ALMOST bought a Himalayan because of Itchy Boots and her videos. I decided it would be smart for me to stay on the road these days.
