    Hi andyc1,

.....was told mid April.......so at least the clocks will have gone forward by then so (hopefully) those balmy, warm(!), sunny evenings will allow fantastic opportunities to visit lots of rural pubs to get those 500 miles out of the way enjoyably.....

......I see you are out getting the miles in on your new Speed Triple........looks a lot of fun......I had a first model Speed Triple back in the late 90's.....black, beautiful, another one I should not have sold......traded it for a Suzuki TL1000 when they first came out......the lure of that manic V-twin was just too much to resist!.......

    Cheers,

    .....Andy, what ever, thank you!!!

If you're not going to be using the camper van and Thruxton for a while, can I borrow them ?

    Hi MickEng,

.....Oh! Mick, ....what a 'noble and selfless' offer to help me out with keeping the wheels, pistons and oils warm and moving within the burgeoning dickydido fleet........but one of the upsides of retirement is that I have plenty of time available these days to fulfill that 'drudge of a task' myself so sadly, that'll be a no!....but many thanks for offering......lol......

    Cheers,

    dickydido ( fleet manager )

    Hi andyc1,

......is the Harris really that much better than the other choices on the market?........I bet it's not the cheapest either......what are you currently using to hoist them up?

    Cheers,

    The abba stands look great.
A good range from a very simple stand to full workshop lift.
Well worth a look on their website.

    Hi andyc1,

......Andy, have you seen that the April edition of Ride mag is running a stand test/comparison?, starts on page 88, no real need to buy the mag, just use your local mag library facility......(that's anywhere that sells mags, stand there, scan article of interest, put it back, go buy the milk etc etc you went in for, go home) .....

MickEng is correct about the the abba stand, Ride give it 'Best Buy' status....if it fits your bikes, buy it and sell off your existing kit on EBay to off-set the purchase price......

    Cheers,

    dickydido

OK, so it has been a month or so and my envy hasn't subsided and I know that this is an ugly emotion in a grown man. I do have a question though.

Last Sunday was lovely weather and I took the R to Brighton and as I live in north London that was a 200 mile round trip, what bike would you have taken?

Today I took the Vespa to central London, what bike would you have taken?

Just generally, you go the garage with helmet in hand, what bike do you take?

I ask because I know that I would have a favourite and use it all the time.

I also ask because I love my R but my hands hurt when I ride it and I suspect that I wouldn't have this issue with the Bobber but I am a man of humble means and the purchase of the R was a life time expenditure extravagance only surpassed once before and to hobble back to Triumph and chop it in is making me faint. I also suspect that if I got off my lardy arse and stopped eating rubbish (and sugar) I might lose a stone or two which would make life better on the R. Life's challenges,....

    Hi Luegolover,

    Oh!, the dilemma......

........life is the the most widely spread, sexually transmitted disease that none of us will get out of alive!.......just go and do what your heart ( and your wrists) is telling you is right.......for you!.........while you still have time to do it.............no matter that anybody else or the peer pressure around you is telling you that it is wrong.......

.....it's no good sticking with what the 'herd' says is 'in ' if it is 'out' for you.......you're payin'.......get what suits you best.

Have you even had a test thrash on the Bobber yet?.........it is not a practical bike.......it is pure, unidulterated, hedonism.

If you are looking for 'a two wheeled car alternative'.......the Bobber or indeed the Thruxton, either the proper one or even the R........are not the bikes you should be picking.......when I needed that versatility and practicality I rode a Tiger XC 800 with full luggage options but now my bikes are purely for self indulgent pleasure.

If you are lucky enough to be in the same place in your life as me........come on over my precious.......to the Dark Side!...........

    Cheers,

    dickydido

PS:.....ITSHTF and I have to sell one or other of my bikes, at this moment in time, it would be the Thruxton that should be the most worried.....out of two impractical bikes the Bobber is proving to be the most practical........fast, slow, comfort, grin factor.....it's winning.

PPS: I used to run a Vespa ET4 125 twist and go scooter......without doubt......the most practical two wheeler I have ever had the pleasure to own.....and I have owned over 60 different bikes over the last 47 years......£5 a week to run and could carry me and Mrs dickydido plus a weeks grocery shopping home from the supermarket and still burn off cars from a junction!.........very, very tempted to buy the latest 300cc version......

Part ex them both towards a Bonneville T120, which will satisfy your every biking need.
No need to put yourself through the misery of choosing then.

Makes me smile every time I'm browsing the posts when I see the title for this thread.
It comes up on my Ipad as 'I was going to have a sha....'
I wonder how many have clicked on it wondering ?
