As said it's a very sad day. My understanding is production is moving abroad, the Hinckley factory will remain as R&D and the special builds. If Triumph exported fully assembled machines from the UK to some countries, then they would be subject to very high import tariffs, as an example a £10500 Street Triple rs 765 would in some countries sell at 2 to 3 times that cost, however if the parts are shipped in and assembled at a Triumph factory in that country, then the machines are not subject to high import tariffs (much like Donald Trump does imposing high tariffs on some countries). Also labour costs are far more cost effective than the U.K. I really feel for all the men and women who work at Hinckley, having worked exceptionally hard over the years thinking they had a long term future. I fully understand a lot of people no longer feel loyal to the brand, however to survive I guess Triumph need to move abroad to remain viable. A small capacity motorcycle appears a real possibility for Triumph, India for example is a huge market for that type of machine. The UK alone could not generate enough sales to make Triumph sustainable. All very very sad.
