My take on modern vehicles is that it is rarely the engine that lets them down its all the other gubbins.
My last 2 Mercs were bought with 200k on clock ex company cars FSH; rust let the first one down, sold it for not much less than I paid with 270k. Existig one will be with me until it or me dies!!
Same for bikes, mileage not an issue but Model/Make price and condition is although my bikes get way more attention than cars;)

I got the cheap car bug from my dad he once bought a Triumph herald for a £5 fixed it for 10 bob ran it for 2yrs and sold it for £20.
I suppose with 9 kids a car was cheaper than paying bus/train fare for our squad, then seat belts came in and fecked everything up:D

This thread got me thinking. Whats the highest mileage bike I've ever bought? After more than 50 road bikes I've owned, to be honest I think its the VFR800 I bought a couple of months back with 27,000 on the odo. But I'm with many of the others here and I would rate condition over low mileage every time.

My trip has about 35k, i bought the blade with over 30k and took it to about 55k with no problems. The bikes that i've had to pull the engine apart come from an age when the odometer was an easily adjusted item so not to be believed.
