Ive been riding 35 years, and own a completely legal and standard BMW R1100RT which I may be changing to a triumph. Loud exhaust. Er, no. You cagers have a very quaint image of us bikers. I have never worn hi viz, preferring instead to rely on defensive riding skills. Despite covering about 15,000 miles a year, I have never had a crash as a result of not being seen. Im sick of newbies like you who seek to remove free choice from other riders. Still IVe have learned something about triumph riders. You all believe that free choice in the matter of hi viz should be removed. Personally I wish you would exercize your free choice to take the bus.

Yes and a lot of that is failure of the rider for failure to position for optimum visibility. Presenting yourself to other vehicles. Its also down to myopic drivers who wouldn't see you if you were wrapped in flashing Christmas tree lights. If you put on hi viz, and assume that you're automatically going to be seen, you are a fool. The fact that you want to remove choice from other riders impose your own safety criteria onto everyone else, makes you a danger to the future of motorcycling. Wear your dayglo if it makes you feel safe, but never seek to remove free choice.
It never ceases to amaze me how "experienced" riders like you don't evolve with the times. Things have changed over the years, you seem not to be able to grasp that ..... No I didn't ride to work every day, I drove to work every day racking up 12 - 20,000 miles a year, and then I went out and racked up a further 7 or 8,000 a year on the bike. You seem unable to grasp that other people have their own ideas ....... you are in the same class as the Dodo !
Whats interesting about that link you provided is that is concluded that Hi Viz "may" reduce the chances of a crash, and "may" increase visibility to others. You proved my point. The operative word is may. That means it is not proven to be fact. Thanks
If as you claim you have never worn a hi vis whilst on the bike you have no personal experience to make a reasoned decision from, only your own prejudices !!
Anyway, what I was hoping to see was statistical evidence showing that riders wearing hi viz are involved in fewer crashes involving other vehicles, than riders not wearing it. That's the only way to really know. Not one of the links provided shows that. Thats because here is no firm evidence. Just theories.
