Agreed. Rather than a poll I'd do a pm to everyone who has been to one of our gatherings asking for a quick response. That way no-one can say they weren't alerted. If the numbers are low we think again.

    I'd write:

In order to help us plan GMU2019 please respond to this PM by such and such a date.

GMU2019 will be the weekend of July XY We are looking at three nights at c£20-£25 per night for the bunkhouse, with hotels etc nearby.

First step is to agree a location.

    1) Do you intend to attend subject to the location being suitable to you?

    2) If yes to Q1, would you attend if in Southern Scotland, e.g. Tyndrum.

    3) If no to Q2 would you attend if we return to Bellingham in Kielder?

Wow you go to work come home, take part in a movie, ( do you people have jobs?:):):):)) and the threads gone nuts.
Bunkhouse beds then bunkhouse prices definitely
Cookings good, and eating together is a must, we could eat out, the problem is theres no craic after the meal in a restaurant .
Its alot easier, cooking in a proper kitchen.
What are we going to do in 5 years time when there are 150 people going to the GMU?
    Hows

I'm waiting on the owner to get back to me about that, he did say there was a hall upstairs and that we might be able to use it for the meal (can't remember an upstairs myself:confused:) but he says there is a limit to how many can be in the hostel at any one time..but even if he did say it was ok I think he was about £550 a night also which if there were 15 folk staying in the hostel it would still work out at £110 each for the 3 nights,i don't think a BBQ will be a problem as there is plenty of outside space?...If we want to pay only £20-£25 a night for a hostel in Scotland we will not have exclusive use of it...unless we go for a small hostel that we can fill, but then the kitchen and eating area is not going to be of any use...2 of the Hostels are really keen for us to come and they are in great locations but they are 5 star ones and are the more expensive ones ..

There is a conference/meeting room pictured on the website that accommodates 40. So clearly the place must be insured for at least 40 persons. There are 26 beds. I'm sure we could squeeze 30-odd in to the dining/lounge area for a meal.

The bunkrooms are normally £20 pppn, and a couple of twins at £25pppn. Be interesting to know what he'd charge for sole use

yeah just had a look on the website and the hall looks to be in the Attic of the bunkhouse,,I'm sure when I asked about the price it was about the £550 a night, I did ask about a discount and he said that was the best he could do,i agree there is room to squeeze 30 odd in the dining room of the hostel but he was pretty adamant we couldn't do this, like I said even if he comes back and says we can use the attic for the meal the cost of the hostel is still going to be expensive as I can't see us filling the 26 beds?

T-shirt design, as we discussed in Wales. Forgot about it, until tonight :laughing::laughing::laughing::laughing:

Sure Sam can improve the text, this is just my ham-fisted attempt, but you get the idea.

Why the obsession with having sole use of a bunkhouse ? We didn't have sole use at Bellingham. We don't have to have sole use, there will be enough of us there to make it feel like we have. Unless of course there just happens to be a large group of Royal Marine Commandos staying at the same time which is a bit unlikely.

Where ever we are going myself and Lisa will be staying in the bunkhouse.
But if I can leave her at home I would like the Twins for £25 pound a night :p:grinning::rolleyes:

By The Way gets solidly booked throughout the summer. In any case, if they won't let us bring hotelers in for dinner it's a no go. Having stayed there last year I do know he's hot on not letting the campers and glampers inside to use the bunkhouse facilities.

Go for it Rich! (as i wasn't at the last GMU i don't know who was all there)
I woudn't call Tyndrum Southern Scotland though..
Ps if the GMU was to be held in Scotland i strongly recommend it be held mid week IE Tuesday,Wednesday & Thursday, and not in July as thats when the Scottish school holidays are and the roads are busier ..May would be best.. if not early June

Can we have any solid proposals in ASAP?

Dougie - can you put this all together and I'll open the proposal thread for you to put it up.

We also need to run the poll to decide which one we are going for.

Sooner we get this sorted, the more likely we can get a bunkhouse booked for sole use & any hotel rooms booked. I booked Wales on August 29th last year!

Anybody else lurking in the shadows working on a proposal? If you don't want to declare publicily yet, please PM me.

ok i think Scotland is going to have to be out of the running ,i've phoned several hostels that would be suitable, and it is going to be too expensive for sole occupation if that what is needed? i have also asked about the possibilty of sharing the hostels but as they are already taking bookings for next year,we would really need to know numbers now ,not just a few people booking them now and rest booking up in dribs and drabs over several months..
i have been getting asked by a few folk if i'm going to organize another Scottish road trip,i havn't decided yet as i would love to do the west coast of Ireland..i'll have to see if funds will allow me to do both! i'll be sending out a PM to the guys that came to this years tour just to get an idea what they liked and didn't like and for any other feedback good or bad,the route would be similar as i feel anyone who has never toured scotland would want to do certain roads,i do have a few tweeks in mind though
