I took a pic of mine with the gaiters fitted, looks way better than the little plastic protectors I reckon.

Fitted them to mine, I like the look now although at first I hated the look. I also have a steering damper, after riding a GSXR and then jumping onto a Triumph I found that the Bonneville didn't like hitting a bump mid corner to well and mis-behaved to a point I wondered why the heck I would have bought a Bonneville. After fitting the damper I found it helped the bike no-end, now its almost a decent bike, and yes it is growing on me.

A bit of advice..... don't buy cheap, get a proper OEM part as the copies are made of thin perishable rubber and wont stand up to UV light or the weather very well.

I'm getting gaiters, same time as I get the forking work done, and change out the crappy plastic headlight hangers on my 2010 Thrux...

I put some genuine Triumph gaiters on my SE last year because I was worried over stone chips. I must say not only has it stopped the paranoia but I now like the look of the chunkier front end. in my opinion they don't look out of place with the mag wheels either.

I would agree, they are a traditional look which suits the style of bike irrespective of spoked or alloy wheels.

I put them on for the same reasons cosmetically at first for the period look but also serves a purpose

I put those nasty plastic stone guards on my 1994 Trident, did 161,000 klms on her, changed the fork oils every 25/30 thousand klms, the stanchions and fork seals were still originals and still sealing no leaks !! So those little plastic Vauxhall coat hangers work !!! Might also have something to do with me being a mechanic and cleaning the seals at least twice a year ???

    Cheers capt.

The hot dry weather has it's own set of hazards !! There's plenty of sand, grit and small stones to bash up the stanchions and fork leg lowers. We also get plenty of rain ! Check out our far north of WA yesterday 440 mm in one day and that's not nearly a record !! 600 odd in far north QLD and over 1 MTR in two days in little Tasmania over two days !
