As others have said, a flu jab is a mild dose of the flu virus, and can cause flu like symptoms, because it is a mild case of the flu you will have. If you are having the symptoms, it means your immune system was low enough for it to have an effect on you.
Might sound like a good idea to avoid it, but don't!!! If you've are having a bad day with the jab, then if you avoided it and got the full virus, you'd be in a far more serious state! The flu can kill if you're immune system is compromised for whatever reason.

Had the flu jab the other week - three days later, kerbam. If this is the mild version I am really glad I am not gonna get the real thing.

A few points. Real flu can kill. The 1919 epidemic killed a lot more people than the whole of World War One did. At the very least, real flu will send you to your bed for a couple of weeks feeling like you've been hit by a truck [I had the 1950's version]. However, despite the risks, even as another asthma sufferer, I wouldn't bother with the flu jab. Pretty much, because flu viruses mutate at a faster rate than vaccines are developed, this years jab is aimed at last years flu variant. Check out "Tamilflu" for the waste of 500 million quid a few years back. Don't underestimate real flu but don't overestimate the help that the flu jab might offer. In short, I'd stick with the advice to down prodigious quantities of gin. Even if it doesn't kill off the virus [which I'm sure enough of it would] it has wonderful anaesthetic and analgesic effects.
