Quick question for the mechanically minded:

I am going to send my forks away to be rebuilt (was looking at Brook Suspension) but wanted to know if its worth upgrading to progressive springs?

    Any advice?

Hi, before you get them re-built worth having a look on ebay, brand new forks at £300.00 i bought a pair when weighed up the cost of a re-build.

Incidently i have a pair of forks from a daytona going spare, resealed and immaculate tubes just bottom adjusters seized up. Compression is fine.

Cheers Pete - but rebuild is only £120 or £200 with new uprated springs and at least i know the will go straight back in.

If i was going to go new i would go for a USD fork (mainly for aesthetics) but way too much has to change to make that work and I am not sure I am quite there yet.

My forks are actually in really good nick apart from the right sanction leaking a bit under the strap pressure. AS i need the seals fixed was just thinking maybe i would do the springs too.

Think progressive springs would be a good idea, get the comfort initially with a firmer feel when pushing on or under hard braking.

I am going to leave mine standard until ride on the road and try out as have never ridden a triumph before !! always had 4 cyl jap bikes, have R1 at present had for last 9 years

Happy New year to one and all - I hope you all had a great festive period.

Small update from me as family commitments left me little time for tinkering but managed to get everything clean and prepped ...

Next steps is to paint the frame components and go over the engine before getting everything back together.

    Cant wait!

    Hey Matt,

I noticed you had done that and actually wanted to ask you about that as they are pretty hideous when not in use. Did you just follow the line around the bottom mount with an angle grinder?

Deffo gonna need those 200g after all the mince pies :)

Yeah exactly right. The metal is actually slightly thicker for the main section making it easy to see where you want to cut.

Vice, then angle grinder, then bead blast, then paint with a rattle can so it doesn't rust!

    Quick pic-less update from me:

Forks are now with Brooks Suspension for a rebuild including upgrade to progressive springs.
Engine now with Mark at MTC in Reading for an overhaul including all new gaskets, new Sprag clutch and a new CPS.

In the mean time frame being painted and reassembled before engine returns for its new paint job and mounting.

Just had confirmation that wheels are almost complete too and will have them by the end of the month.

    Happy days!!
