    Hi Boothy
I've just registered and signed in for the sole purpose of following your and Cafe Hinckley as you both build your CRK Cafe Racer. I too will be attempting a CRK build using a1998 Trident Sprint 900,which at the moment is in several bags and boxes as the previous owner lost the will to live attempting a rebuild.
The focus of my project is to be ready for the 2017 Distinguished Gentleman's Ride as in September this year I was diagnosed with Prostate Cancer and these chaps not only raise money but more importantly awareness of this all to common condition. I promise to post as many pictures as I can and hope you will allow me to tap into your knowledge when I get well and truly stuck, which I have no doubt I will.
    Thanks fellas.........Jennoe.....

    Hi There.

Best tip i can give you is buy haynes manual and read a few times before carrying out the strip down and rebuild, also loads of bags, labels and take plenty of photographs of how things fit together.

New bearings, discs, chain/sprockets arrived today so hopefully get wheels built up and forks, swingarm on soon get it back on wheels :)

I have been speaking to Doug Richardson down in Devon (www.devonwheelbuilding.com) who has been building Triumph wheels for the past 20 years and he is going to hook me up.

He did a similar conversion for his own Trophy so knows all the tricks and has all the parts required - really nice guy to deal with too - seems to love his bikes.

Going for laced 17" with black rims and stainless spokes/nipples wrapped in Metzler Z6 Roadtecs.

    Something like this ....

    Cant wait....

    Hey Boothy,

Wanted to check in with you re pulling the engine and respraying it. i am considering doing mine and wondered if you had any advice?

The lump seems like a beast any tips on best way to remove?

Also did you paint the engine yourself - whats the best way to go about that?

    Cheers

    Hi.

I removed the engine with trolley jack underneath the engine and rear raised on a paddock stand, simply lower away !! have a helper on hand as the engine will topple when comes away from frame. I made up a wooden platform and put some castors on to move around bit like a big skateboard.

With regards to painting mine was a silver engine and wanted to turn black.

First remove all hoses, carbs exhausts etc. Brush off most of the muck dirt. I then just brushed down and wiped all off with cellulose thinners, wire brushed and rubbed down the whole main block.

I then loosened up all of the engine covers and then lightly nipped up the bolts to hold the covers in place. sprayed the main parts of the engine block, best paint i have found is Simoniz tough paint, covers well and very resilient to heat and oils. When sprayed the main block removed all of the covers and sprayed these separately off the bike. including the sump. When dry if you wish carefully sand the raised TRIUMPH lettering to reveal shiny letters and lacquer. Used new Stainless bolt kit from ebay to secure all covers, note order some 6mm washers too as don' WP_20161128_19_50_06_Pro.jpg WP_20161128_19_56_40_Pro.jpg WP_20161127_17_23_15_Pro.jpg t want to scratch your new paintwork with bolt heads !! UPDATE

Got the CRK kit this week had quick rough try of sub-frame really pleased with quality of everything in kit. Have refurbished brakes and fitted new discs, sub-frame and refurbished swing arm this weekend.

Awesome job thank you Boothy - i have a scissor jack so may use that to drop the engine out.

Thanks for the tip n the paint too - i think i have seen it on amazon.

As for bolts - was there a bike specific kit or did you just order s size?

    Many thanks.
The bolt kits are bike specific, got them off ebay if you do a search for your bike, note the sump bolts are not included just did search for some stainless cap head bolts m6 x 25mm i think, the two longer existing ones in the centre of the sump i retained as you cannot see them at all.

The new gasket set i got from the "World OF Triumph" good website for parts and no.s !!

Just checked and the Simoniz Tough paint is only rated to 150 degrees and they do a separate engine enamel with a higher rating. I guess only the exhausts would get hotter than that right?

Hi have used this paint before on engines and parts no problem with temperature, the exhausts would need another type of specialist paint,

    Hi Boothy,

I meant to ask how you approached painting the additional motor parts (starter/alternator) - did you leave them in place or do them separately? If the latter did you just mask the connection points?

    Cheers

Hi no removed all the engine ancillary items, and all engine covers. The starter motor was fortunately like new. The end cover on the alternator can be removed the rest of the main body i carefully hand painted, also finished the altenator off with some chrome domed nuts :).

Brilliant thanks Boothy - one final thing: You mention lacquer above after you had sanded back the raised areas - what did you use for that ?
