We have several supermarkets here that do the same thing....nearly identical products that are "store branded" for a much lower price. I love that there are neoPringles that are gluten free! I love Pringles. :yumWhile I don't need to eat gluten-free, I've found a number of things that are that have a texture that I like. Pizza dough for example. I'll have to be on the lookout for the States' version of neoPringles. :)

You’re not alone over there @Sandi T. there’s loads of cockwombles (used that word just for you :p)over here that have been gathering like that. :worried:
I’ve read today too about loads of people moaning about having face masks being made mandatory. What’s the problem? Do they not want to protect themselves and everyone else?
I really despair of society today, it’s full of f@&king morons!

Here in Southern California, the virus is at an all time high. Everyone talks about gathering at the beaches, the bars, etc. No one mentions the fact that we just went through a rash of public protests, riots. No one talks about what THAT has done to boost the infection rate :( . Infection.rate.in the minority communities has shot up ! I hear your cause people. But not in the middle of a pandemic. Stay home, and save those lives you say you care about. ...J.D.

Some (OK, a lot of) reading for you, if you're interested in understanding how we have been manipulated (or experimented on, depending on your point of view).

In the US there is a big push on now to re-open the schools. REALLY bad idea. Politicians again. They want to open up what is essentially the government run baby sitting service so they can get all the parents back to work. Got to keep the taxes flowing. If I still had kids at home, they would NOT be going back to school. ...J.D.

I absolutely agree with you, JD. My husband and I both work in schools as school psychologists so we are following the goings on around school reopenings very, very carefully. It is practically impossible in a school setting to follow the guidelines that we know work— social distancing, masks, and hand washing. Schools are petri dishes in action. Those that are pressing for blanket reopenings clearly do not understand schools. While determining the best path by which to proceed is not clear, the many school leaders in Tucson who I know personally are doing their best to make the wisest decisions possible based on the best data, facts, and evidence available and are working their butts off to do the right thing. A recent survey of parents in the largest school district in Tucson indicated an even split— 50% of parents said they would not send their kids back into the classroom and 50% said they wanted schools to reopen. Threats by politicians to withdraw funds from districts and schools who do not reopen certainly doesn’t help solve anything.

When you look at the massive amounts of.money thrown at public education, then look at the end.product, it is pretty pathetic. The adverage K-12 graduate in the US can ALMOST tie his own shoes. Put that money toward online education. It would be cheaper, more effective. Less violence, and bullying. The families that want to step up will benefit. Those that don't won't. It is time parents get back to raising thier own kids. ...J.D.

Thanks for posting this informative, thought-provoking though frightening chart, @garethr. The numbers in the 55+ age groups are stunning especially considering that the COVID death numbers are calculated only up until July 3rd, just over half a year, while the other causes of death for a full year based on how the chart is labeled.

Depends on how you look at it, I suppose.

After the last few posts, I thought the data for children might be interesting.

We all ride motorcycles, after all, and given the average age of a rider these days, we've probably been riding for a long time.

Here's another table from the same page.

Comparison with normal risks in a typical 16 week period.

Just read we have just under 70,000 new cases in the US today alone. Guess I'll just continue to hunker down here at home, like I have since March 13th. I did not get this old being crazy [well...I AM crazy. But that is ANOTHER story.] ;) …J.D.

what is unclear is the long term health risk...

“Chickenpox is a virus. Lots of people have had it, and probably don't think about it much once the initial illness has passed. But it stays in your body and lives there forever, and maybe when you're older, you have debilitatingly painful outbreaks of shingles. You don't just get over this virus in a few weeks, never to have another health effect. We know this because it's been around for years, and has been studied medically for years.

Herpes is also a virus. And once someone has it, it stays in your body and lives there forever, and anytime they get a little run down or stressed-out they're going to have an outbreak. Maybe every time you have a big event coming up (school pictures, job interview, big date) you're going to get a cold sore. For the rest of your life. You don't just get over it in a few weeks. We know this because it's been around for years, and been studied medically for years.

HIV is a virus. It attacks the immune system and makes the carrier far more vulnerable to other illnesses. It has a list of symptoms and negative health impacts that goes on and on. It was decades before viable treatments were developed that allowed people to live with a reasonable quality of life. Once you have it, it lives in your body forever and there is no cure. Over time, that takes a toll on the body, putting people living with HIV at greater risk for health conditions such as cardiovascular disease, kidney disease, diabetes, bone disease, liver disease, cognitive disorders, and some types of cancer. We know this because it has been around for years, and had been studied medically for years.

Now with COVID-19, we have a novel virus that spreads rapidly and easily. The full spectrum of symptoms and health effects is only just beginning to be cataloged, much less understood.
So far the symptoms may include:
    Fever
    Fatigue
    Coughing
    Pneumonia
    Chills/Trembling
    Acute respiratory distress
    Lung damage (potentially permanent)
Loss of taste (a neurological symptom)
    Sore throat
    Headaches
    Difficulty breathing
    Mental confusion
    Diarrhea
    Nausea or vomiting
    Loss of appetite
Strokes have also been reported in some people who have COVID-19 (even in the relatively young)
    Swollen eyes
    Blood clots
    Seizures
    Liver damage
    Kidney damage
    Rash
    COVID toes (weird, right?)

People testing positive for COVID-19 have been documented to be sick even after 60 days. Some people are sick for weeks, get better, and then experience a rapid and sudden flare up and get sick all over again.

Then there is MIS-C. Multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children is a condition where different body parts can become inflamed, including the heart, lungs, kidneys, brain, skin, eyes, or gastrointestinal organs. Children with MIS-C may have a fever and various symptoms, including abdominal pain, vomiting, diarrhea, neck pain, rash, bloodshot eyes, or feeling extra tired. While rare, it has caused deaths.

This disease has not been around for years. It has basically been 6 months. No one knows yet the long-term health effects, or how it may present itself years down the road for people who have been exposed. We literally do not know what we do not know.

The writer of this has a point!

Thanks for sharing this, @DCS222. I will be emailing it in its entirety to my dumbass little brother in Minnesota and his two boys (in their 20s) who just don't take COVID seriously. FFS, my father nearly died in a tornado some years ago so it's not like my family doesn't know that tragedy isn't something that only happens to "other people". And Fauci's comment "How dare you risk the lives of others so cavalierly" is something my MN boys need to chew on too.

    I must apologise @Sandi T.
on closer investigation I can’t attribute this to Dr Fauci... however the bulk of the text is true in my healthcare knowledge... so I’ve edited out the hyperbole...
