This exactly. I mean honestly, after 15k a day arriving through out the peak without even having a temp. checked, now when everyone else is miles ahead of UK recovering and opening their borders, they will introduce this. If anything, it should be the other way around, anyone coming out from here should be quarantined. This clusterfcuk of a goverment honestly has absolutely no clue and after 2 months of "we are following the scientific advice", it suddenly comes to light that actually, the scientists have been giving them "all scenarios" versions of event and it was the government pick and choosing what they actually want to do..what an utter shambles..

A couple of weeks ago a scientist said on tv that closing airports or quarantining people on the way into the country would have no effect on the infection rate and so wasn't something they were considering. I thought at the time that sounded like a load of crap, these people are supposed to be experts :(

I think Australia were doing it right from the beginning weren't they? It seems to me that if you have infected people coming into the country there will be new outbreaks all over the place, better to deal with what we have than to keep adding to it

Not really a fair comparison given that the population in NZ is only 4.8million. Got to agree that the testing at airports should have been sorted earlier

And ignoring common sense, we all know scientists have massive intelligence but little common sense

Sodding predicted text. That should read “airports”. Anyway I agree that testing on entry should have been in place earlier. But comparing NZ to the UK don’t feel right imo

The trouble is Heathrow is one of the busiest airports in the world and the UK is a massive hub for travellers, that's why it should have been shut down very early and probably why we're suffering so much now

more voices being added to the call to end the lockdown as it's achieved very little, the case count growth rate was dropping naturally, and lockdown is just doing more harm than good, indirect deaths*, economy, social impact etc, but don't take my word for it, here is a Nobel scientist -

*estimated 60,000 early deaths will occur from Cancer alone so far as a result of falling diagnosis numbers.

I don’t know what the numbers are for people coming into the UK by air over the past few weeks? But given that the restrictions around the world can it really be that many? Does anybody have the stats, cause that would sure help understand the risk of not having testing in place.

They want people back at work to save the economy. I'll have to go back to work at some point and when I do it'll be less safe than it was six weeks ago because the virus will be wider spread. I think we're all cannon fodder and a lot more people are going to die , as for the people that think lifting restrictions means everything is safe now...

I've heard several times that it is currently ~100,000 per week.

But is it really a shit load against the population of over 65 million? My point is that without knowing how many you cannot quantify the risk. Just saying....

as per my previous quote, 100K per week, and in more news, Scientists in another "no shit Sherlock" finding .

Scientific Research Finds That Closing Borders Is Most Effective Way Of Combatting COVID-19
Scientists in Brazil have found that the countries most affected by the coronavirus spread are the ones who continued to allow unrestricted travel across their borders, prompting further arguments that the most effective method of preventing the spread is tighter frontier controls.
