What I REALLY have a longing to do is build a chopper with new triumph air cooled running gear, but I am physically not up to the task anymore. There are some custom frames around for these engines If one could find a doner bike cheap enough. ...J.D.

I too buy bikes unseen (6 out of 7 in last 16months) and two of these (Honda Shadow & Honda 1300 VTX)
were feet forward....that position alone was the reason they had to go....for me it was just too much weight directly on my lower back with no chance of respite by standing up for a bit to ease the strain on back.
Must say, I do have a back problem, but if I didn’t I would still like to ease the weight off my back occasionally by easing off the foot pegs.

Are you saying the forward controls hurt your back?

No, the forward controls don’t put the hurt on my back, it’s the fact that I feel every bump in the road through the seat into my butt and up into my lower back, with no chance to take some weight on my legs in anticipation (When pot holes, man hole covers and any other highway defects appear) of the inevitable jolt.
Traditional Street Twin/Speed Twin riding position suits me best.
    Regards,Ken.
PS. Do like to stand up now and then to stretch the legs.
