What started as a test ride thread ended up as a helmet dating issue :)
Well as promised I had a reply from Shoei today, I have edited my reply to remove only my personal details which I know you will of course understand, other than that I have copied and pasted everything, as below.

    Dear Mr. >>>>>>>>>

    Thank you for your email.
Your email has been forwarded to us as we are the official Shoei distributor in the UK.

Thank you for your feedback on the J & S Bristol branch. I will contact their Feridax account manager and relay your comments.

In regards to the Shoei warranty, in the UK the warranty is 5 year from the date of purchase. As long as the helmet has been stored correctly, Shoei recommend that the life of the helmet is between 5-7 years from first use, the helmet should not deteriorate in any way until first used.

The Shoei XR-1000 is now a discontinued model and so stores will likely be selling their remaining stock of these helmets should they have any. However, Regardless of the date of manufacture, in the UK, our warranty period is 5 years from date of purchase.

    Kind Regards,
    Andrew Taylor

    Hi Andrew.

Sorry to continue with this, so you are saying that a helmet sold in the U.K that has been stored correctly is ok to be sold 10 years after the manufacturing date and Shoei will then guarantee it for five years, which in total at the end of this period the helmet will be fifteen years old (which was the case with my purchase)?. Why is it your web pages say five years from date of purchase and no more than seven from date of manufacturer? Which country would this information be directed at?. I have to say I am very surprised with what you have told me, it was my understanding that Shoei was one of the best which is why I returned the XR1100 and upgraded to your GT Air. I will say this will be the last of the Shoei range of helmets I buy. I had no idea a "new" helmet could be so old.

    Regards
