Street Scrambler felt ‘just right’ when I test rode it. .. never thought of getting one but the dealership didn’t have a T100 to try. Bought one straight after the ride and so pleased with it... excellent bike. In my opinion the 900 engine is perfect for this size style and purpose of bike... would think a 1200 motor will make this a different, more ponderous machine and take away a lot of the fun... just my two pennyworth!
Agreed, it is so good because of the combination of all the factors. One of which is, as I’m quite big, I can really throw it around. I may not look good on it but hell I’m having a blast! Had another cheeky test ride today, proper fun! Just want to try the previous model, which apparently is a slightly bigger bike with similar characteristics ..
I think it's only the ride height that needs sorting, the rest of the bike looks right under you not withstanding that. I think the suspension on these things (I have a T100) should be high on the list for sorting out, it's best desribed as crude. I'm about to have new springs up front with Racetech emulators and Nitron rear units - all are made with the correct spring rate for your own weight. This is all you need I think. You may also be able to get your local specialist to set your bike up with a little extra height.
That sounds like the way forward, ex demo came up at my local dealer, in black, I’ll pop in and ask what they csn do about the ride height.
I think you'll get the bike you want that way. See if you have a local specialist or talk to somebody like this https://www.twsuspensiontech.co.uk/ You may even be able to order correctly specified parts for yourself to fit or your dealer.
Nice bike. For anyone considering doing similar........work out the cost of 1 day van hire. I drove with the readies in my back pocket, inspected and spirited my Bonnie home to insure etc., at leisure. For £80 plus fuel it was the easiest purchase short of having it freighted unseen to my home.......for slightly more money. Not a fan of extended test rides in the rain! Don’t forget restraints!
I find the ride height one of the best features of the Street Scrambler...I’m 5’ 11” and my legs always felt a bit cramped on the 2 more recent Bonnies I’ve had... I’ve found the higher seat height and higher bars perfect for comfort and chucking the bike around, and in fact feel more confident and in control on this than any of my other recent bikes... all personal choice of course
Agreed, but when you 6’2” and 215lb of atletic build, even the scrambler is not realy big enough. I had 2h on it and I did not feel uncomfortable, I just make it look like a 250cc The Desert Sled Ducati was the perfect height for me, not really a bigger bike though, just taller, and nowhere near the character of the Scrambler. Don’t want to lower the pegs as I have already found them couple of times during the test ride I’ll try to find a way of raising the suspension and maybe a bigger tank from T120 would do the trick too
Hi All, just thought I'll give a little update. Ended up with ex demo black Street Scrambler, few basic mods and the decat, debaff V&H off road pipe and I absolutely love it, proper hooligan (especially since I took the baffle out) and an instant Steve McQueen mood booster everytime I get on it. Clocked over 2.5k miles already, it was still 18'C last weekend, so you would be rude not to really.. As you know, I always felt that at nearly 6'3" I was a bit too big for that bike, riding position is comfortable, I do feel my hips a bit after 2-3h on it which would indicate I'm a touch cramped on it. That brings me to the only problem I have with the bike, well actually my problem is with its bigger brother that just came out, because I want one, badly..and it looks like with 870mm seat height it would be finally a bike in proportion to me without being huge adventure bike..yes i know the 21" front maybe a touch too much for the road, so test ride will be crucial, see if it is similar amount of fun. It is lighter than my Street Scrambler, which is a good start..to be continued...
You might consider a slightly higher seat. I have a British Customs seat and I believe it's an inch or so taller than stock seat. It also allows you to scoot back on the seat and stretch out when you feel like it.
Abdolutely, already did my homework and the slammer is the way to go to gain height. I found myself often all the way against the raised back section of the original seat. At the monent though, all purchases are on hold until I test ride the 1200, as I’m under it’s spell at the moment. 870mm seat height, 207kg and the way it looks makes me salivate everytime I look at the pictures...
