I'm glad that I don't have a TV so I'm pretty ignorant as to who Clarkson is and what he represents. Of course I've heard radio news reports of his antics which are also covered in the national press. I'm not bothered as to wether the Beeb sack him or not.

You've not missed anything important, imo.

Hi FB - well done for finding that clip. I understand that it belongs to another era but then so do I. I thought it was quite lovely.

    Dave

PS Since watching this one I've seen several other clips of this wonderful singer; which led me onto Nelson Eddy - what a range of styles he sang !!!! Youtube really is ACE isn't it?

Thanks Dave, the name Maud is so evocative (as indeed she is) I couldn't resist it. I do fear that the Maud in the song may be a little old now.....

I've spent the last few months listening to a lot of songs and performers from that period for a song I'm working on and developed quite a soft spot for them (which is more than I could ever say for Clarkson no matter how much research I did
    ;))

I have a soft spot for the Glen Miller era of music. Such style and grace as well as great spirit.

Yes Dave, I was brought up with the sound of the swing era. I've always thanked my Dad for the musical education he unwittingly gave me :)

    Cheers

My Dad died when I was only 5 but the influence for the love of this style of music came early on whilst watching the wartime film "The Glen Miller story". The quality, courage and vivacity shown by the band and in the music has never left me.

Its nice to hear peoples view on music. Music is my life in all ways and I still don't consider it a job as I enjoy it now as when I was that spotty kid face stuck to the window of a music store dreaming. I get to do what I love and have always kept my ear open for techniques and sounds of all styles. That's part of the reason I love my Bike because I can ride to gigs and see something else than airports and a view from 35000 feet up. Thank you for your input.
Would be interesting to know of a playlist of 5 songs you would listen to on a ride...if you could be arsed.... peace \m/

There's tons of different stuff I like a lot, but the first two that came immediately into my head when I read your post were:

    1. Radar Love - Golden Earring

    2. Alright Now - Free.

I won't listen to music when I'm riding. I've suffered from tinnitus for a long time. Too many gigs with a loud fiddle player and riding bikes without ear protection did for me over the past 30 years. I've tried to use some specialized helmet phones but the music has be loud enough to make sense which is not doing my ears any favours and cuts out too much ambient noise and I start to lose touch with the outside world.

If I were to listen to music though I think it would be a very different list now than what it may have been 30 years ago with less emphasis on hard rock for songs with a more relaxed groove (goes with the cruiser I guess ;)) So plucked from my ipod "favs" playlist. All of them give me a sense of movement, of open spaces, and I can almost see those bends rolling off in the distance.....

    African Velvet - Black Velvet

    September Gurls - Big Star

Funky Cold Medina - Tone Loc

Ain't Nobody Here But Us Chickens
    - Louis Jordan

    Bad Moon Rising - Creedence
