Any recommendations for speedo tach refurb ? Mine are looking a little tired and doubt they work . I could go for new but depends on refurb costs and it would be cool to have originals .

I have used Ashley Pople for clock refurb, original clocks are the first thing most people look for :)

I managed to get some black on all the important bits tonight after everyone went home at the workshop . I still have a handful of other bits and also the mudguards and the tank of course which will be done later on in the build when it’s needed .
Feeling good now with most of the hard work or rather less enjoyable jobs behind me .

Very nice :) RS paints are good for Triumph colours.

    ,
Thanks all, I was wondering about the tank colour . All I know is it should be Olympic flame from a bit of searching , is there a paint code ? or a known substitute that is used today ? . I will check out Rs paints too.

Is the two stage paint that RS paints sell the only way to get a good match ? is there not a single metalic base with laquer code available or is a bike specific detail . I am only used to painting normal metalic or solids not familiar with this candy effect . Thanks for the lead Darkman :)

There are no colour codes for Triumph colours and the original colours varied greatly, i use house of colour as i have been using it for years. RS paints are probably one of the easiest to use as you normally only req 3 coats of there candy mixed 50% with reduser over the base coat with one clear over that or for a mix of cellulose and 2 pack clear you could try John Critchlow.

Crumbs , quite a bit to take in here:neutral: . Not having painted a bike tank before am I right in thinking the whole tank is painted with the olylimpic base then the olypic paint , then the silver torches are masked and painted with just the silver metalic base then pinstipes applied and then whole tank is high gloss lacquered if using the RS paint . Are all the Rs paint base and colour 2k then 2k lacquer.
When you say candy do you mean their base paint ? Reduser is hardener or thinner ? sorry for the questions just trying to get my head round the task ahead

I'm sure RS candy comes thinned already so just add the hardner and yes 2K, you will have to speak with them for full specs as they are very helpful. Also original pinstripes are over the top of the clear coat but perfectly ok to do it under, i have done it both ways, also after basing up in siver and then your 2 or 3 coats of candy all wet on wet its best to seal it with clear coat then after its dry you can flat it and do the silver and lines or just silver if doing lines on top, scotch with 2000 and then clear coat.

Got my bits back from the platers too .
Other jobs , made a work bench in anticipation from some 18mm ply on top of a frame made from 40mm box sitting on 4x 9" hollow concrete blocks . I did think of buying a spangly new ramp but tbh I could do without spending out and didn't want to have to store it when finished , I can tuck this away somewhere and the blocks can go back outside somewhere .

Thanks Hamburg very kind of you to say so , I learned a lot over the years from other peoples threads on various projects , so its good to leave a trail if it can help someone in the future , even if they just look at a few pics for reference.
