I agree that impact sockets have thicker walls & are made ever so slightly softer. This means that when they are used with impact tools like air ratchets etc. They gradually wear out rather than shatter like a chrome socket could/would.

That gradual wearing out would take many years in an industrial environment where the socket is used every day on an air tool i.e. somewhere like Kwikfit using one to undo/refit wheel nuts.

If it's used with a breaker bar or a hand operated socket wrench? It would last Dougie for decades.

If you have access to somebody with a lathe I would recommend turning the o/d down to about Ø56.5mm for the first 6mm or so, the socket then fits inside the recess of the cone spacer and gives you full contact on the nut flats.
