Thruxton 1200 or 1200R? Help me decide...

I had the R because I like the front Showa and Brembo calipers, and I like the grey

But I think you could get a bit of a deal on a standard 1200. My dealer sold a black one for £10k - the saving against the R would buy you some nice tasty bits. You can buy Ohlins shocks, which would probably be better than the standard ones and a new cartridge kit up front. Then it makes it slightly different than any standard bike.

Some Arrow cans, even a full system would make it tasty.

Difficult decision I agree......good luck. Whatever you decide you won't be disappointed, it's a brilliant bike.

 

Wotcha, although I've just about got used to it, I still find the ride harsh(yes, I know it's a racer at heart), and I found the front adjustment made little difference- 3 adjusters front and back .I love it though, beautiful.

When I was at the dealers not long after the release of the Thruxton, they had a long line of Thruxton R's waiting to go out, about 8 or 9, and just one std model....

 

.......so, one in ten is a twelve...

....it's clearly better to be the one, in the herd...

....and not just one, of the herd!.....

....my Thruxton was similar, one private owner, 540 miles on the clock and he'd already spent over 600 quid in extras on it!....

Tail tidy and V & H pipes are a must for any self respecting owner

 

.....all this 'tail tidy' malarkey must be an age thing......

....when I was young, without fail, every bike got the hacksaw treatment......where mudguards were reduced, excess brackets were cut off, every bolt was shorten to the absolute minimum, indeed no effort was spared in minimising anything and everything to make it look 'sexier' and lighter.

Now, with over 60 years on my clock, every new bike gets mudguard extenders and a hugger fitted.....and when I bought my Thruxton 12 I got the dealer to take off the tail tidy and put it all back to standard!.....best of it was the dealer gave me all the extras back and I sold them all on EBay so that reduced the purchase price even further by a few hundred.....I seem to have a lot more common sense now rather than dubious fashion sense.....

......Its just a good job we are all different since if we all liked the same stuff the world would be a very boring place!.......
