Sounds like an airflow or air temp measurement problem so check those two sensors.
Higher altitudes tend to make already rich mixtures richer because the air is thinner IE less dense therefore requires smaller jets to compensate....
I agree at that sort of altitude it shouldn't make that much difference just dont be loading the engine up too much you could also use one stage...
