Yep, I'm with ya, @Fork Lock. The other thing we've seen happen in Tucson is that there are just plain far fewer officers out on the roads. So people just start speeding wildly (and I do mean wildly), driving very aggressively, running lights, etc. because the possibility of even seeing a cop at all on the roads is so small. There is one suburb of Tucson (Oro Valley) that we ride in and through regularly and that town seems to have more traffic cops. Consequently, there are far fewer violations that I've observed when we're in that part of the metro area. It's like the naughty kids at school--if the teacher walks over near them, they tend to shape up. As a school psychologist, the term we use is "proximity". Easy-peasy and it works nearly every time without saying a word. Well, sometimes you also have to give a kid "the look".

I think the major problem in London, they've reduced speed limits to 20 MPH, originally for health reasons but then found traffic travelling slower left more emissions than before so it's now safety, less fatalities but more dings as people feel they don't have to concentrate as much and have time to look at their phones etc. ! thing that's really increased is red light jumping this is probably due to the possibility that the light phases haven't been changed since 30 mph days so going at the speed limit sees you hitting the next red light just as it turns red! Yeah in California, seems like I never see urban cop stops any longer. I think they still do random drunk driving checkpoints Fri/Sat evening. Also I got "caught" (seen goofing off) on my 11,000W electric stand-up racing scooter, and the cop did nothing. I do see cops camping country roads for speeders on my motorcycle. Highway patrol hasn't changed much though.

Not one of these taxes existed 100 years ago, & our nation was one of the most prosperous in the world... We had absolutely no national debt, had a large middle class,a huge manufacturing base, and Mum stayed home to raise the kids.
What in the Hell happened? Could it be the lying parasitic politicians wasting our money?

 

Joking aside, it was easy when we had an empire. Just rape half the world for its materials. Of course, we had other things back then; diphtheria, rickets....I doubt the average worker would change what he has today with back then.
