anybody know the specs for valve/cam clearance on a 96 sprint 900???
save me some google time if its common knowledge to somebody, plus how many links of chain I can't remember 525 or 530 but thats easy enough to find

110 for a 43/17 final drive,
112 for 46/17,
114 for 48/17,

 

well Im happy to report that my valves are well within specs, so that saves me some money on shims.

 

Like I said...everyday I need to do something. I spoke with CRK and my parts are about 3 weeks out so I need to finish clean up and complete rolling chassis in anticipation of assembly.

today I cleaned up the shop again and cut down my motor mounts to ditch the centre stand lugs. I also took some stock and added to my parts order.

I also rode my Honda CT90

 

I hope I just made my last parts order today. Gasket set, fork seals, exhaust studs, coolant hoses and engine bolt set. All that's left is the chain, which I will try to source locally nothing but my time and labor needed to reassemble the rolling chassis and re install the engine while I wait for CRK delivery.

Now my color scheme...because I think I can do it.

#2 I have purchased LED projector headlights for inside the helmet
#3 Galaxy/ space vinyl wrap for body work
#4 I have a 5" tall metal TARDIS I'm working on putting LED tail/brake lights in. and repaint of course

 

Its hard to do something everyday, but I have managed to do something no matter how small. Today I unboxed a bunch of cool stuff (see pics) and I cleaned and polished the fork legs in anticipation of replacing seals tomorrow. I am also working on my lighting helmet idea, worst case scenario I use the CRK 7" unit. Oh yes...check out this tail light and tail light bracket I found on Amazon (china) for only $20

 

Thank you Sir, I love the full on Cafe Racer style CRKs with stripes and Teddy Boy good looks. While the nice people at CRK have done it all for us by sorting out what bits go well and work without drama, the little things can add up to serious cash if you don't keep an eye out.

I like custom stuff and while Im not an artiste level fabricator, I can work within my skillset. I was thinking about an Eagle Squadron paint scheme (Americans in the RAF) , Maybe an AC/DC or Flying Monkey (see Photo) ,then I considered a California style metal flake and chrome, but that seemed more a Roadster thing. I was a Star Trek Sci Fi fellow in my youth and while I was aware of Doctor Who, I was not a big fan. Fast forward 1997, my son becomes a fan and I start to watch the Doctor out of curiosity and then went back a few Doctors and became fascinated with the villains.

I started thinking about what parts I could source local and avoid paying the VAT and shipping fees, I found a few parts like the tail light bracket and an assortment of LED goodies, all very inexpensive, and maybe they are junk but for the price I would order and see. A friend of mine suggested I wrap the tank, fender and seat rather than paint, I started to look at wraps and saw the galaxy stuff and then I thought maybe a steam punk inspired build.

My son commented that in a weird way it looked like something a Cyberman would ride and could I get a Cyberman hemet. That led to a full on Cyberman theme. I do have all the standard parts if my idea does not make the shift from in my head to reality, so worst case is I wind up with a standard CRK with a space wrap color scheme that I can change at a whim for minimal outlay.

I'm happy that my build has been embraced by so many and the encouragement really keeps my momentum up.

Sorry for the article length post....Im a little under the weather so this will have to count for my something today.

 

Oh my, the whole family has been sick except the dog. I have not done much besides surf the net, watch Boone on cable TV (the retired fireman who rides around on a BSA A65 solving problems like an English Lone Ranger) and be miserable for days on end.

enough about me. Im doing better now so I picked up my gold pieces from the powdercoater, they look better in daylight, not sure about a dark garage. Yes that is red silicone squeezed out from the mating surfaces, I assure you it is not very much and I will remove with a razor tomorrow after it cures so no nasty red rubber lumps on my bike.

I also paid the remaining balance on my kit so I expect delivery in a couple weeks tops.

 

it looks worse than it is. Attached swing arm and cleaned wheel in anticipation of engine install...Im not sure about that gold, time will tell, mistakes may have been made.

 

Thanks for the encouragement , yes it is a pig in a poke, but it had compression, it had spark, and the engine turned over free. it was also un molested and only 700 euro, I could see it was well cared for up to a point. I have been doing as much prep work as possible before CRK parts arrive. I do have a failsafe of regular headlight/tail lights in case of visionary shit.

I am using the Motogadget M-unit Blue, so wiring is a breeze. Best product out there by far.

As to time, I have an advantage that few here have. Assembly is my job, I'm retired and looking for work so unless I get a dream job in the next two months, I have all day, everyday to complete this project. I can pour 60 man hours a week into it if need be.

 

BTW Big Steve....when are you coming over to ride and party? how about June 6th???

 

Today I managed to get my engine back in the frame. Not an easy job by yourself. My package of parts is due tomorrow so I should begin initial assembly of the KIT and start to hit snags by monday.

 

I am not worried, Is this the look of a man who is worried???
