Thanks jhero, I'm nipping it over to Staffordshire Triumph on Thursday and hoping to get a ride on another Bonneville for comparison purposes, either way I'll have the throttle looked at amongst other things, I'm really hoping this gets resolved. Curly
Curly Please note the 2-3 mm free play is the Triumph recommended free play and the Triumph dealer may not want to reduce it. Its easy enough to do you just slide the rubber cover back off the adjuster in the cable to adjust it. I think the spanners required were 8 mm and 10 mm.
check throttle bodies are balanced. If the dealer does not sort it, probably because they will fob you off, go over to Clive Wood. He will spend some time to set it up properly.
Rode over to Staffordshire Triumph today, typically the problem did not show itself, nor has it all week long! I told them that the bike had been very difficult in relation to snatchy throttle, smooth down changes and low speed work. One of their men took it out for 15 minutes or so and afterwards took it into the workshop for another 15 minutes or so. The verdict.............................................nothing wrong and no faults shown on the diagnostic check. This is re-assuring in one way, at least I know nothing is U/S. It seems as though the transition from long term VFR ownership, followed by 4 years away from bikes, to Bonneville is not as straight forward as I'd anticipated. I'm happy with chain tension and throttle ' slack ' Perhaps I'm being too fussy and think I'm a better rider than I really am? I've got to get to grips with this, a challenge I wasn't anticipating but I've resolved to stop belly aching and get on with it. In the rush to get over there I forgot to pick up my driving licence so any road test option for comparison purposes went west. Not the outcome I'd wanted but it is an outcome and plenty of food for thought to boot. Curly
That's very generous, thanks Tigcraft! I am going to persist with learning to co-ordinate things, if I feel that I'm getting nowhere after a while I'll give you a shout. Thanks again Curly
Now over 3000 miles, and getting used to it! Chatting with another Bonneville rider at Bala yesterday, and it seems that this is a feature of our torquey twins. I managed to enjoy 150 miles of Welsh A roads and came home with a big grin on my face - much needed after a few heavy days at work. Still twitchy commuting today but fun round the lanes.
