My 2009 675r records the max speed in the depths of the dash...... why and for what purpose ? : unamused::confounded:

What does your dash look like? Anything like image 78 in my earlier post?

    Similar yes but not quite.
My 2009 is a three button dash and the rev counter isn't the later yellow background one.
This bike is a bit weird as it also can't accept a quickshifter, simply the loom plug isn't there :D yet, a mates 2009 loom has the plug available and so consequently a quickshifter installed and working nicely

This makes it a proper bike with proper old school technology, no abs, no riding modes, no quickshifter - what you mean you have to pull the clutch lever etc yet ironically it's part of the attraction :yum thankfully not kickstart though :joy:

Interesting, I know what you mean about old school technology, my Ducati is totally analogue. Yet approaching a roundabout or sharp bend at speed and having to knock it down 2 or 3 gears whilst braking and blipping the throttle gives immense satisfaction when achieved.

The shift assist is great but there is a danger that new riders will never bother to master these techniques because they don’t have to and thus miss out on the satisfaction that is second nature to us riders of older machines.

I only know how to do it on the RS, I will look at an R model and let you know if I can work it out.

Hi Baza the dash is the same one from 2020 to current, there are however additions, such as the extra electronics display trays, eg cornering ABS etc.

Good point Baza re the blipping, I taught both my sons the technique from day one of their riding, blipping the throttle is used on the downshift to avoid the rear wheel compression-locking, the lower the gear the higher the engine revs for the same bike speed, as you change down, the chain, shaft or belt, slows the rear tyre faster than the engine can pick up revs, or the bike can slow down. The result is that the rear wheel skids, It doesn’t “lock up”, but does turn slower than it needs to roll along the road. It can be dangerous and lead to “snaking”. The effect is more significant on large V-twins (Ducati) and single-cylinder bikes with a lot of engine braking, rather than on higher revving four cylinder machines, avoiding this you need to get the engine revs high enough to match the road speed so your rear wheel spins at the same rate it needs to roll at the current road speed. Hence why a lot of manufacturers have installed "slipper clutches", these have been around now for many many years, it was Suzuki that did the early R@D on these.

As you say the large V or L twins as in my Ducati excel in the engine braking department. So much so that you can work your way through a stream of traffic without touching the brakes if you get the timing right with the correct gear selected. Having said that I was surprised at the amount of engine braking the Triumph gives.

And conversely the lack of it my Honda gives gave me a surprise at my first roundabout approach .

It was interesting watching Jonathan Rea racing in WSB a few weeks back, you could pick up right away that his quickshifter/blipper had failed as he was blipping the throttle while downshifting, and easing off the throttle on the upshifts, JR has been around a long time and learned those skills at an early age, it looked almost super reflex and a joy to watch him.

Sorry for the late post, here are a few photos of the Lust Racing lowering links and sidestand kit, the 4 spacers for the sidestand and 2 new fasteners puts the sidestand at the right height, if the sidestand was left as standard it would risk the machine falling over. Machine cleaned after first 2 photos taken.

Lust have two kits, one to lower and one to lift. I've always fitted the 'lift' kit to my Street Triples and as Iceman states they are simple to fit. From memory they either lower or raise by 25mm.
Lowering will make it steer slower but be more stable at high speeds, raising will do the opposite but you will need to have skills far higher than I've got to notice these minor changes.

When I was thinking of changing the bike to the latest version I did email Lust but it fell on deaf ears.

I gave my STRS a deep clean including taking the sprocket cover off, many don't bother taking this off when cleaning and lubing the chain, you would be surprised by the amount of grit and stone that lodges behind the cover, small gravel stones often wedge themselves behind the front sprocket causing wear to both chain and sprocket, I remove and clean the area thoroughly on a regular basis, as you have to remove the quickshifter/blipper this allows you to re grease the pivots and makes a huge difference to slicker gear changes. After many years trying different chain cleaners and lubes I have settled on Banana Slip Chain Lube and Chain Cleaner, and Muc Off for bike cleaning, we all have our favourites, some use Paraffin or Diesel Etc Etc, however modern O Rings in chains can be destroyed by certain cleaning methods and products, the same is true for chain lubing, people use gear oil or engine oil, whatever we use it attracts stone and grit like bees to flowers, a spirited ride when the chain gets hot and the lube gets really sticky road grit and small stones act in an extremely abrasive manner, personally I deep clean and re lube very regular and obtain big mileages before chain and sprockets need replacing.

Hi Baza that's not good from Lust, usually they are really good, I will see if a kit is available for the new models and come back to you.

I happen to love the new TFT compared to the analog one.

There’s a screen option that puts a huge digital rev counter in your face. That’s not good enough for you to see your revs? Or do you just like to complain?
