Now I don't really do Facebook as I detest the whole infringement on privacy thing, and then when people post up what they are having for tea etc who cares, however, occasionally there is the odd nugget.

So I said to the wife, " if the weather is something like then let's have a ride over for what sounds like a good cause!"

Now we weren't sure exactly what we were letting ourselves in for but hey ho.....

We aimed to arrive just after 13.30, so a half hour early, and was met, a few hundred metres from the home on a small country lane, by a massive stream of bikes coming towards us who were turning right. We promptly joined them and did a loop around the housing estate to try to find parking

To say this small village was rammed with bikes was an understatement.

We were now parked around 400 metres from the home and both sides of the street were lined with bikes. Anything from 1000cc+ latest and greatest to 50cc from a hundred years ago and everything in between.
It did not matter what you were on, and the sense of a great atmosphere by all was very real with one aim, give Peter what he'd wished for :)

The care home garden forecourt area, and vicinity, was just stacked out with people.

Despite the massive turn-out the care home were good to their word providing drinks and cakes for all .... yummee :yum

There were some great looking bikes there and such a variety that there had to be something to please everyone.

There was a nice smelly LC riding up and down, oh the nostalgia, I NEED to add a road 2 stroke to my stable

Well i'm lost for words. That's just a fantastic turnout and just goes to show the lengths that bikers will go to in order to help each other.

A lovely run out on the Street Twin doing in total 118 miles, mostly country lanes and definitely no motorways. Good weather throughout until the splitting off after the event, but only rained for minutes and then good.
Came around a corner on a country lane near Darrington and an emergency stop was in order ...... there was kerb to kerb water and for a length of around 20 metres.
Wife offered to paddle in to test the depth.... bless her :joy:
Umm, no hang on!..... cautiously weighing things up, I decided it was only kerb depth and so proceeded, sticking to the crown of the road and low speed  all good
That dirtied the bike a little but no worries ;)

    Just to conclude and summarise;
I don't know this Peter, or have any connection with the care home, but if this is all it takes to put a smile on his face, then that's easily resolved then isn't it?
My Mother in Law is now in a care home, and the daily monotony of day to day same old same old can be a struggle adding further complications to an already strained situation, especially if you add dementia or something similar into the mix. If doing something like this gives an uplift, however temporary that may be, then today that has to be mission accomplished doesn't it?:blush::blush:

The marshalling, whoever you were, was very good and kept traffic flowing throughout despite the numbers.
Toilets were laid on by the care home as were cakes, cans of pop etc. So a big thank you for those.

And saving the best till last..... I was even given a gratis pair of sunglasses with my can of pop which I'm sure my lad will snaffle off me.... snazzy I must say

A big round of applause to Wrawby Care Home and the Trust  well done!!!

I only just read this from the BBC to Mrs D. Put a smile on our faces so Peter must have been elated. Well done to all involved :grinning:

That was a great find on F/B. What a brilliant turn out for Peter that was. This was definitely a feel good read. It just goes to show that a little kindness can, and has gone, a long way to making that such a special day for Peter.
