Wiring A Zener Diode

What year is it? does it have one with an alternator?

If you replace the old black type 3 wire rect with a solid state rect you don't need the diode.

 

Make sure you get a decent one like this for a single phase 2 wire alt.

 

Are you using a 12 volt battery now with the electronic ign ? (should be) and you can get a rec at any of the classic bike suppliers.

12 volt ok makes no difference

 

Well Chiari1 - I'm no expert by far but I would say you need masking tape that is a lot stickier than the one your using I hope this helps

 

It's very simples as later bikes colours vary from the common early colours. This chart shows both of the colours early n late

 

How i see it is white/green to yellow rec and the other 2 joined to other yellow

 

Generally when connecting a three phase alternator to a two wire electronic regulator/rectifier you connect two of the alternator wires together these are usually yellow, yellow and green and sometimes green, the red or brown wire is usually the battery or hot wire.

What your describing as a single phase regulator/rectifier should be able to cope with one two or three phase, these diagrams may also help.
