My 955i S3 is used purely for pleasure so gets put away for the winter. This may be an obvious question for most but this is the first injected bike I've had. Previously with my carb'd bikes I'd run the engine with the fuel tap off to use the fuel in the carb fuel bowls and then drain the last bit. I'd also store with a fuel tank full with a stabiliser added to keep the fuel fresh.

Do I need to run the bike with the fuel line disconnected to remove any fuel as above or is the procedure different along with needing a full fuel tank given the tank is plastic unlike all the previous metal tanks I've had?

    Cheers

I've a bike on my ramp that's been there over two years and it still starts on the key with what was left in it without having been drained if that answers anything?

Thanks for the advice. I just wasn't aware of what if anything in the throttle bodies could get blocked much in the same way as pilot jets in carbs can get gummed up if left in fuel. The bike is on a trickle charger all year round but this year all the bodywork will be off along with the emptying of the tank in preparation for a re-spray. I'll be doing a few other maintenance jobs too like stripping the rear hub.

I would be inclined to put a dollop of Redex, or similar, in your tank and run the engine to get it into the system before stripping it down, just to help keep things clean.
My Trident has a full tank of super unleaded liberally dosed with Redex for over wintering. May even get some fuel stabiliser as well. Never had any problem when I've put the bike back on the road in spring using this method. One year I forgot and the bike went into pop/bang/fart mode after a few miles. A quick visit to Halfords in Selby for some Redex, and the bike was soon back on song. Convinced me!

Putoline do a couple of products, a stabiliser and a conditioner. One helps to keep the fuel fresh which I added to a full tank of petrol before storage and the other I'd run through with the first couple of tanks once back on the road, never had an issue doing this. Good to know it's a similar setup for the triple to be layed up. Cheers

Swear by redex, both my bikes are low utilisation, I switch off the fuel tap and run until dry on the BSA, but as you say, can't do that on EFI bikes.
If not in weekly use I tend to put the optimiser on the battery every three weeks or so, also start and warm up and remove any condensation and damp.
Better still, go out if it is dry whatever the temperature.

My boat and jet ski get laid up for the winter, both start fine at the beginning of the season, both fuel injection, skis 1500cc four stroke supercharged, boat 3.0ltr V6 two stroke. Only thing I do is spray a fogging oil into the jet ski charger.
Done this for the last 10 years without a problem.
