I need some advice about an issue I recently encountered at my local Triumph dealer.

long story — short, I ordered a Bluetooth Connectivity Module accessory for my 2024 STR 765 RS (A9820200) The unit was already installed when the bike was delivered. I was happy about that. I paired it to my phone, helmet, everything works fine (except the volume control function isn’t working with the switch cube joystick. However, I saw a Triumph video that says the volume needs to be adjusted via the phone, so this may or may not be an issue).

The problem began when I just happened to be picking up some parts I ordered, and the parts guy comes out with a Bluetooth unit. I told him that my bike already had a unit installed, and didn’t accept it, although I recorded the part number. I was trying to be honest. I could have accepted the part and sold it on EBay, but that would be dishonest, unethical, and perhaps criminal.

After checking the part number on the Bluetooth unit installed on my bike — much to my chagrin — I discovered that the part number was different than the one spec’d for my bike, the same one the parts guy gave me. According to my research, as well as Triumph, the unit for my bike is, A9820200. This is the part that the dealership ordered for me, and matches the one they gave me. The part number of the unit installed on my bike is, T2508989. Apparently, the later P/N is for a Triumph Tiger 900 GT Pro.

Here’s my question: Should I return to the dealership and ask/demand that the part I ordered be given to me or installed, and return the one currently installed?

(I’m even willing to do the job myself, since it appears to be plug and play, and the software has already been enabled).

    What would you do?

You’re a good customer to the dealership having bought a bike from them.
I’d like to think they’ll change it and fit the right part number, especially as they’ve got it in; you say that it works as it should except the volume / joystick (although poss not a concern)
But I’d rather have it changed for the correct part now than trying to sort it out if something goes wrong with it in a few thousand miles down the road and they discover that the wrong part is fitted.

Absolutely did the right thing refusing the extra part since it was already installed. That being said, the difference in part #'s poses an entirely separate question. Does the part you currently have installed have all the same functionality as the one you ordered. This may be a question for your dealers Triumph rep rather than the parts guys?
Coincidentally, I did just run across a YouTube video talking about the bluetooth module by someone who moved the module from their Trident 660 to the ST765RS. Apparently he was told by his dealer that the "boxes are all the same". He goes on to briefly test functionality, but doesn't show much besides being able to change music tracks and SMS messaging.
Hard to answer whether or not I would ask the dealer to swap the part. A good part of me says I would, just because I would want the exact part # specific to my bike. The other part that nags at me a bit is that if the functionality is the EXACT same, why bother going thru the hassle.

Bluetooth module comes up at 15:55 and then testing at 19:15

Curious how this works out for you as I am definitely interested in adding the module to my bike as well.

I would insist on the correct part being fitted. There is no excuse for a dealer to fit the wrong part.

Good points. I’m going to ask for the correct part. I’m not sure if the functionality is the same. I’m trying to find out.

Yeah, go for the correct part.
The Bluetooth module has enough issues on its own without giving it any excuses to misbehave
