Hi Guys, Having previously owned a near new Daytona 955i a few years back, I know what lovely engine the 955 is.

I am looking to get a 955i S3 soon and will have up to 2.5k to spend, So I would like to ask a few questions ;)

Above and beyond the usual things to watch out for on used bikes, Are their any known S3 specific issues/weak areas to look out for?

At what mileage are major services due, and things like clutches, fork springs/shocks etc likely to need replacement?

No doubt I will have more questions in due course, but that should help start narrowing things down :)

Does it HAVE to be a 955i engine?

I only ask because you may be lucky and get a 1050 for that money privately??? The 955 engine is great but the 1050 had soooooo many little improvements it's gotta be worth considering right?

Either way, the s3 is a good bet. Sports bike performance, easy to ride and use.

Low mileage is the key. Lower the better really but don't be afraid if it's been used. Just saying that cos it means less chance of new shock/springs being required. Service history required, but that's standard for any make/model.

Standard is good but bear in mind it may have been modded then returned to standard for sale.

12k is the BIG service and costs well over £500. Might even be more!!! That includes valve checks and shimming if required. See it's been done by a reputable dealer.

Oh.... Yellow. If you can. ;)

    Cheers for the info Bob:)
I think it would be pushing it to get a 1050 for my budget, but yes I would be happy if I could.
The ones I have seen advertised seem to vary between 20-35k miles, I assume valve shims are every 12k ?

    You assume right mate.

If serviced properly, this engine could power a small armoured personnel carrier. ;)

Think you'd struggle at a dealer for that money, but you'd be in with a chance privately with some haggling. Seeing the notes in front of em can do strange things to sellers...

    Good luck

I got my '03 S3 a couple of months ago for £2.4k with 6k on the clock. If your patient and willing to travel and haggle they are out there. DSC_0153.JPG

I should be off to look at a 2000 model in a couple of days, sounds like its been looked after.
Just out of interest, anyone know best place for radiator side panels, and am I right in thinking there are only cosmetic changes on 02 models, so exhausts for those should fit ?
