Sorry to be an old Dinosaur. My rubbish Garmin L 340 has finally done my head in .From day one it has been nothing but trouble .To day I went to update the heap off **** and it totally wipe the sat nav clean and it does not matter what I do on Garmin Express it will not reinstate it .So I now have a sat nav with no maps and can not even navigate to the bottom of my road .The Garmin L 340 is now in my dustbin and good riddance to it .Now the good news I finally have a good reason to buy the Tom Tom Rider 550 but being an old dinosaur I am confused .My old Garmin was hot wired to the Tiger and I had a 3mm lead to some ear plugs .Today that is no longer the way it is done .Now it is all done by this thing called Bluetooth which I need explaining to me .Right I have decided to buy the Tom Tom Rider 550 and the Sena SF Bluetooth head set which I am told are compatible , So if I buy the Tom Tom Rider 550 and the Sena Bluetooth headset ,is that all I need to have a working sat nav again . I will hot wire the sat nav to the bike ( the wiring will be done by a pro mechanic ) Just need to know if there are any hidden thing I might need to consider or is that everything covered ? I am not bothered about phone calls etc just want a working sat nav for next summer

The Sena and Tomtom wil work nicely together.
I would not hard-wire the device to the battery though, so as to prevent inadvertent draining of the battery.
Better to connect it to a switched lead, either in the headlight assembly or the rear light.

You may also need to consider a usb for your phone,if you’re going long distance,as this connects you to live traffic etc.
As has already been said it’s not a great idea to connect directly to the battery.
You can get piggy back connectors and connect to the horn, others have connected in the headlamp.

Well strange but true .The reason why I was going buy a new sat nav was because my old Garmin sat nav had a melt down when I tried to update the maps and it ended up wiping all the maps of my Garmin .I tried to reinstate them by trying to download the maps via my computer and Garmin Express but it would not download the maps back on my Garmin ,so I thought my hard drive had gone u/s .Any how my mate took my old Garmin and try to down load the maps using he's laptop and bingo it work and the map are now restored and the old Garmin is back working OK again .So the problem is my laptop but I do not know why .I have tried uninstalling Garmin Express and reinstalling it but my lap top just will not down load the maps on to my Garmin .Anyone have any idea what is going wrong with my laptop ???

Could be your USB ports, look in the drive menu when it’s connected and see if it’s recognising the device as a drive. I had this problem with mine, it would recognise some things and not others so put in some new USB ports and the problem was solved.
