Hi all, oil changed on the 1998 speed triple and these bits were found in the oil pan. Looks like parts of a spring and part of a C clip? But don’t know where from as the engine runs fine !!!! Any idea what or where they could be from?
I can't see how they've managed to come out of a 15mm ish drain hole?! Are you sure those bits weren't in the oil pan already?
I had a clutch bolt sheer on my race Bandit last year & the whole lot including the broken spring was in the sump, however I had to remove the sump to get at all the bits, it has already been said but did they definitely come out of the drain hole? Was looking for the post I did at the time but can't find it, shame as there were pictures of the bits that I got out of the sump.
Found the thread, scroll down until you find pictures of a fooked clutch basket, I had to replace the whole clutch as the bolt had done a few laps of the basket before ending up in the sump, as I said I had to take the sump off to retrieve all the bits. https://www.thetriumphforum.com/threads/clubman-racing-diary-of-a-newbie.16018/page-27
I was going to say clutch spring as I’m sure I’ve read before that it was a known problem on early T5s You’d certainly know if it was a valve spring that had collapsed
I would lay the bike over to avoid having to drain oil after just changing it, then remove clutch cover so you can inspect the clutch for missing bolt/spring. When this happened to the Bandit the clutch was slipping badly. If yours isn’t then it could be that someone has replaced a broken bolt & spring without making sure all the debris was removed. Look for tell tale signs of damage around the basket & case.
