Hello, I live in Bristol and 10 guys with masks & hoodies tried to nick my Triumph Street Triple. It was around 2pm, broad daylight, and I was sitting 10 feet away. One guy kicked out my steering and I ran over... luckily they took off. So brazen and nothing I could have done.

Anyway, they broke my the metal plate in my ignition cylinder.. the cast aluminum part that connects the plastic to the yoke and holds the steering lock. It's a crack on one side but I'm able to push the parts back together and still get the key in and turn the bike on and off.

When I move the parts, sometimes the bike won't turn over thought.. like a contact inside must be lined up just so.. Worry bike starts but get could get stuck where it won't start again (this hasn't happened yet). Worse, what if it happened when I was driving.

The challenge is how would I fix the cylinder in the position that works - How should I proceed? A new ignition is expensive so prefer not to replace.

Thought about these options, what do you think? Should I...:

    - remove shear bolts, then disassemble ignition cylinder to isolate the metal part.. then weld safely?

    - build up a fiberglass epoxy cast around the cylinder to lock the parts in place.. so no heat

    - try to drill & tap mounting holes and use sheet metal to fix the parts?

    - not disassemble and tig weld knowing that the aluminum needs to be at around 600c to fuse?

    - leave as-is and hope that there's never a problem starting it up somewhere?

Anyone ever tried anything like this? Would really appreciate advice.

    Thanks in advance!

Did you contact police? If frame cracked - insurance will write off. If you go to sell the bike - this will cause an issue.

Thanks for the answer but that shouldn't be a problem. The only part that's cracked is the ignition..
