Right, so here's some info on my bike... Its a 1998 Triumph trophy 1200. It was my mates dad's bike and covered about 17,500 miles from new. Having always liked triumphs I thought it'd be a good choice so went for it. First impressions, heavy... But I like it and plan not to part with it.

Now I have never owned a standard bike as I grew up drooling over streetfighter styled bikes and choppers.

The plan was to keep this one standard and ride around on it enjoying the bike, the fact I could take luggage and poss look at doing some touring.

The bike is 1 owner with heated grips a couple of small miss and that's it. The Mrs took one look when it was home and quickly made the decision the styling wasn't for me so do it up...

Fast forward about 12 months, we have a 2nd child on the way, he will arrive in about a week so I decided what a great time to strip my bike...

Here's a pic of what it looked like standard, in tear down and an idea I have since binned as the look wasn't doing it for me...

Design plan:- 90's styled streetfighter that I can still take a pillion but some trick bits and a hell of a lot lighter than it was from factory.

Advice welcome, plan is get all my parts together, mock everything up then do a full tear down. Due to where it was stored the engine will need soda blasting and re painting so it'll give me a good chance to go through it. Anything not required will be removed to open the bike up if that makes sense.

Does anyone know of anyone who does a decent belly pan, if not I'll make one so not an issue, shorty levers..?

The thread will be an ongoing one with not loads of changes for a bit however I might add the odd coffee inspired ramblings over the next few weeks whilst adjusting to no sleep.

Oh and paint, might either go for a cool factory looking paint job or go for a completely mad style... Haven't decided on that yet.

    Keep you all posted

    Jim

    Ron,

Thinking at the min just weight reduction and ditch anything I don't really need. Plan is to de clutter.

I want the bike to still be a trophy, not a replica of anything if that makes sense.

Parts are ordered so mock up can start soon.

Well, some parts are arriving... Bikes now got the look that suits in mock up with the new lights. Hugger and chain guard are here from CRK and the clip ons and mirrors have arrived from Complete Cafe Racer. Lovely quality too and at a very decent price. Staff are very friendly too which is always a positive.

Like I said at the start it'll be a stop starter if a thread with other things taking our full attention but it'll get there.

    Couple of pics

    New yoke finally arrived...

Back end tidied up a bit.

Wheels and forks are off to be stripped and re coated. Slow process when the bike isn't here.

    Getting there

    Well not loads of progress...

Tires have arrived, wheels still at powder coating. New (old) forks arrived and appear to be ready to be fitted straight off.

    Wiring next.

Paints waiting till next year. Trying to get the bike built first then take it from there.

I've learnt over the years quick builds are far from it... It'll get there. Getting the major bits sorted first then the paint can be sorted next year. At least the engine paint anyway. That looks a state so will need sorting. Will just look like a proper street fighter for a bit longer.

Whilst in lock down I've also thought about chopping the seat off. Still thinking keep it at the min. With the plans I've got it should hopefully add to the look.

Last build was only 4 odd years so this is going well o_O

Wheels are back with new powder coating and tyres and my new (old) forks are sprayed and ready to go.

Hopefully the next pics will be a tad more exciting.

    Duckadiledundee, cheers for the comments.

What bike are you doing..? Drop a pic on. Any projects are fun. For mine it's about lines. I also didn't want to just cut off the seat unit and start again. I appreciate for some it isn't the most pleasing of seat unit but I like to work with what I have. Plus it'd be nice if the wife ventured out again.

Keep you all updated tho. Going to hopefully have a brain storming session with my brother over the next few days and then progress will happen :)
