    Hey everyone,

Im having some trouble with my Triumph Bonneville T100 (2005). Back Story: My bike had to sit for a while since I was moving and had a busy year. When I went to start it, it would ONLY start with the choke out but it was very labored and if I gave it any gas it would die. The bike would not start with the choke in. I replaced the jets in both carbs, replaced the gas in the tank and put in some fuel injector. The bike now will only turn and wont catch. The turning sounds really strong and fast but I have no idea now what to check. I know it isn't the spark plugs. Those rarely go bad and I checked the resistance in them anyway. Any advice will help. Thanks yall.

I drained them earlier and after, the bike sounded better even thought it still isn't starting. It it a fast sounding turn. I used Gumout fuel injector carb cleaner

Combustion triangle is much older than I am, good fuel mixture, good air, and good ignition source. Insect nest in the air filter intake system maybe, it can happen but I doubt it since I would start on choke. I would look for cracked or loose hoses that are downstream of the carb butterflies.

Check that battery. Its got to be in tiptop condition. And those carbs really need ultrasonic cleaning. Try taking the air filter out and running it. Also if you can start it up and don't touch the throttle let it idle for about 12 minutes. Let it cool and do that three time. And believe me spark plugs do go bad. Then check the spark at each plug always make sure you let them spark as they don't want to insulated while you check the other both must spark.

Your opening post made me sit up. The carburettor bikes are quite particular about the start up sequence.

The choke isn’t......it is an enrichment device not a flap in the inlet. It wants pulling fully out. With fuel tap on you then crank the bike - throttle closed - until it fires. It will be quite cold blooded for a few seconds and die if you open the throttle prematurely. Within 5-10 seconds it will start responding to the throttle and you can trim off the ‘choke’ but it will be happier left out for nearer a minute even if you have ridden off.

So, on a well charged battery, using the above sequence does it still not fire?

If not, the next step is to run out a plug, stick a small rag over the hole to inhibit fire and ground the plug electrode on the engine casing ((NOT by hand!) and turn over looking for sparks at the electrode - hard to see in SOCAL sunlight....

Ever done that. I have long time ago grabbed a plug cap and held it. Think its why I got frizzy hair.

Better than that...... Remember the old lawn mowers used to have a flexible tab under the plug to Earth them out and stop the mower? They had rubber caps or straps on them for insulation.

I stopped a running mower with my thumbnail that made unwitting contact beyond the strip. I remember flying backwards onto the lawn with a stiff arm and no muscular control.

My sister was filming with her Cine8 crying with laughter
