    Dear Gentlemen
I want to buy a used 2010 Triumph Bonneville t100 but it has terrible engine sound.
The Owner told me, its just a valves and after adjustment it will be normal but i am afraid, its more serious.
The bike is 29 000km but last service maintenance was at 1700km
Please see attached zip video and advice what can be the problem and how much will repair cost

    Thank you very much
Any advice will be much appreciated!
    Sincerely Stefan

Hi Stefan, walk away from that one!

No, better still, runaway from that one !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've never heard a Bonny engine make that noise and unless it was very, very cheap to buy, I wouldn't touch it.

There are many more good ones, so why buy a bad one?

    Hi Thebiglad
Thank you for your swift reply.
Sadly, here in Slovakia only this one is for sale ( zero in Czech republic) . And its for good price i think (4000€ )
I agreed with the owner that he will send motorcycle to the service for big maintenance, then show me service protocol and if engine sound will be as it should, just then we can talk about purchase. But there is a still risk that I will overlook something or something will goes wrong in the near future
    Thanks again
    Sincerely Stefan

Hi Stefan, I read that he will put the bike into usable condition but my concern is what damage has been done by the valves being so out of correct operation.

I understand that the rarity of this bike in your country is a big attraction for you but let me just share with you what I do, when buying bikes and cars.

For the last 15 years I've been in France (originally English) but still buy my cars and bikes in England, mainly due to availability but also price. I fly to England, check over the vehicle, pay for it with my credit card and ride/drive it home.

Because the UK, France and Slovakia are all in the EU, exporting a vehicle from one EU country to another is very simple.

If you decide to consider buying outside your home country and need advice please don't hesitate to contact me.

    Cheers
    Dave

The biglads right Stefan. In your position it can be very tempting but that bike seems to have a very bad service record and even if the owner gives it a full service the damage already done could be very bad in a years time.

As the others are saying - the damage has probably been done - leave it well alone.
