Touring Screen Racket?

I recently bought another 2001 Bonnie and it came with a 'touring' screen. Never had a bike with one of these on it and thought I would give it a try. The two times I have taken the bike out, every time I hit about forty plus mph this gawdawful wailing siren noise starts up. I am assuming it's coming from the screen or thereabouts because it doesn't stop even if I hit the kill switch and conk the bike out. It only goes away once I seriously reduce speed.

Anyone else had this? Is it a common problem with this type of screen?

Don't know, mine also came with a screen, but first thing I did was remove it before I rode it for the first time... awful things, I hate them :p

I removed the one that came on my bike, take it off or adjust the angle

I have to say that I thought CHIPS myself when I saw it Jez and was going to rip it straight off but the missus said "Oh I love the screen thingie" and looked crestfallen when I said I was planning to take it off so I told her I would give it a fair trial before executing it. I will take it off before her next outing and I hope that that will deal with the horrible high pitched whistle/whine. I can't think what else could possibly make such a horrible whining noise short of a cat strapped to the mudguard with it's butt against the tyre.

Ripped the bleedin' thing off and the horrible screaming noise has gone with it. I examined the article and it is an authentic Triumph screen and doesn't actually seem to have any way to adjust the angle as Don suggested. Some of the screws holding the perspex or whatever it is to the frame were a little loose so I guess it might have contributed but I think the root of the problem is that it's a rotten piece of overpriced crap. Glad I didn't buy it and it was just an 'extra' that came with the bike or I would have been seriously dischuffed at shelling out for garbage.

My original Bonnie came with the optional Triumph "Postman Pat" screen.
I tried it once and it was awful (to look at) and at motorway speeds - noisy and caused dangerous buffeting in my view - especially when changing lanes.
Sold on ebay for a good price so DD has a good point! :grinning:
