i have a problem and was wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction, as regarding the torx bolt on the frame to fit the xpipe on a thruxton, what exactly do i need, i think its a T55 , i have looked at the bolt and cant decide if its a female or male i need to use? do you have any pictures or details of what you used, and also if you bought a set which one did you get and where? as i have also heard on the forums its better to get good quality otherwise they chew up…..

Thank you for the replies dozers dad and calamity….
The first job i will be doing is using a T55 on the thruxton frame... but none of these sets seem big enough, the nut is the sort of size of a nut you would use a 17mm spanner on…….

yes Andy the one by the stand and the one behind the tank…. also what i dont understand is……… the said bolts look like you can use a male and a female socket on them, obviously as it will be tight i would think you need the female socket to undo it…….

as far as tools are concerned i have so many and everything i need to do most jobs, as i am relatively new to triumph then i am not familiar with using torx tools, i can tell what size a spanner, allen key, nut or bolt is by just looking at them but these torx are a bit confusing……

    Andy……
if you can confirm its a T55 i can just get a socket to use with one of my socket sets……..
and also its a female type..?

Thank you Andy for taking the time to look, so i found this….. Screen Shot 2018-12-15 at 16.51.48.png
as already said i was slightly confused as i could never of imagined releasing a largish bolt with one of these male types, i was thinking that it should be a female socket type……...

Is this what you need? A photo of the nut would help!

Thank you Andy that makes much more sense now you say it like that….great help……. thank you Callum it seems like i need the "male" bit type…..i may get a set of male and females but cant see me using them very often…… you are all brilliant….

I dont want to outstay my welcome but i need to get a fairly cheaply priced torque wrench, my wife is buying it me for xmas, i need a 1/2 inch drive but as i understand i need to get the lower range of torque settings type, maybe 20-80 NM as from what i have read this range are the most used especially for motorcycle, i have searched but not much joy as yet…..

I have a mixed set of male and female from fixing my daughter’s Vauxhall. Used with an impact screwdriver (NOT an impact wrench/driver) you can loosen many awkward fasteners without burring. I have found that life skills seem to expand with new tools!

Sounds like you need to sign up for a Halfrauds Trade Card on here. £15 for life!
