    Guys

Im struggling on choosing a top box for my Bonneville. I don't want anything that looks massive and out of place but not something so small that it looks plain daft????

I was thinking of a 42ltr however I cannot visualise it in place, anyone give me any advise, if you have a 42ltr on a Bonneville please post a photo. My need is just for a commute, waterproofs the odd 4pinter of milk, locks, chain, that's about it.

    Thanks for your input.
    Andy

Also look at the shape ( dimensions ) of the box too, will it take what you want to fit in it, eg full face lid ( its nice to store it upright as it may get marked on its side ) and gloves as well as the other things you want to carry. You never know when you will need to stash the lid etc for a short time whilst out and about.

Why not try a tail pack such as the Kriega 10ltr? I have one and can fit waterproofs, chain and padlock in no problem, plus other stuff. May even get the milk in but not tried that one. I normally use it to carry an A4 survey pad, laser measure, tape measure, camera and other kit for work. It attaches to the frame with strap loops which can be tucked under the seat when not in use.
Let's be honest, they may be useful but top boxes are basically ugly! (especially on a Bonneville).:cool:

Firstly thanks all for your input.

Dozers Dad... This was exactly my meaning, something too small will look odd. If your able I would be very grateful of a photo if anything just to put my mind at rest lol

Thanks for the photos. Yep your right it does look quite big. Ummm gonna have to think about it now, might have to buy a new backpack. As for the push Bike, we have two of them in the shed, wife and daughter bought one each to do a few weekend rides, that lasted two weeks and now they are rusting away. Lol

The other thing about the Kreiga stuff is it’s modular and you can add another one onto or remove it as required.
I have a 48 L top box on my Thunderbird, doesn’t look too bad but still it’s big and ugly at the end of the day.

Very much a personal thing but I hate topboxes! Their sole advantage is as semi-secure (unseen!) storage for a lid. I used to have one donkeys years ago but found a collapsible and removable tank bag superior in every way.
If you have a carrier for panniers or a rack you can bungee on a variety of bags waterproofed with bin liners as necessary without having a permanent b****y great sail behind you catching every cross wind.

I defer to your unquestionably superior sense of taste and style. I cannot pretend to have your experience in these matters......

Here you go - a 2017 Bonnie T100 with a 42 litre Givi topbox (V42). WAY too big and is being replaced before the riding season with a 32 litre one.

The V42 is just deep enough for a full face on it's side and there is more than enough room for two lids side by side, ie, it's too wide for a small bike. The new one is narrower and slightly taller so should suit better. I hope.

Very practical but one guaranteed way to ruin a Bonneville's looks! :(

Had a look at this Jez and for that money I’m well impressed :)
So much so I’ve just ordered one
I’m gonna make a quick release system of some sort so that everything comes off the bike in one go including the mounting plate :p
It’ll be going above the rear mudguard so I get use of the back rest :)
It’ll be ideal for my Scotland trips and of course the GMU where I won’t have a pillion
Cheers Jez I owe you a pint :yum

Had one of those on my Bandit, the brackets rust nicely so need a good treating of acf etc.
Plastic is on the thin size but seemed durable enough.
Only downside to it was the lock was cheap and nasty. So don’t leave anything valuable in it when you leave the bike

Been messing about at work today :p
The Maverick seat that’s fitted to my BPOS has a large tongue like thing sticking out the back where it bolts onto the mudguard to hold it in place
The idea I’m toying with is a frame that will be bolted to the box and a basic fitting/release system so that when I get somewhere like the GMU I can remove the box and frame in one go :)
Their is a bolt hole at the back of the mudguard just in front of the piston/conrod brake light that I made :)
This was where the original seat was bolted down
I’m gonna use this to hold the frame/box in place with a modified bolt of some sort that can be tightened/loosened by hand :)
The bit I’m not sure about at the moment is the front mounting plate which will be on the tongue part of single seat
I want something that can stay on the bike but won’t stick out like a sore thumb :(
It’ll be either a peg and hole system or a strap mounted to the box itself
Gonna have to wait until the top box is here so I can offer it up to the bike and see what I’m up against
