    Sadly.

We already have a huge (bowel) movement over here to be rid of Columbus day -Yeah, the Christopher Columbus who brought diversity to the land! To those snow flakes I say, if a man that's been dead for 500 years triggers you, you are in serious need of therapy.

Ironically in 1805 the greatest significance of Trafalgar was that it ended all threat of a French invasion.

However, the bloke pictured above is no Lobster.

Rule Britannia, Britannia rules the waves five chinese crackers up: sorry wrong version, lets hope we maintain the spirit of our Navel chaps for the future before someone has it removed from the history books.

And I shall be celebrating with a traditional English meal of Kebab and Chips:grinning:

On a serious note the importance of this battle is often overlooked in a 5 hour battle Nelson’s fleet destroyed 19 enemy ships in the most decisive naval battle ever and immediately negated the threat of invasion by Napoleon and his army which at the time was thought to be imminent and would have been catastrophic to the Country
Vice Admiral Horatio Nelson a proper English hero

British hero. His ships’ surgeons were overwhelmingly Edinburgh trained Scots.

He was shot in the back by a Frenchman about 150 years too soon. His injury would almost certainly be survivable today but paralysed below the chest.

Fair enough but Beatty who was the surgeon on Victory was in fact Irish. If he had been from Northampton I would have said cobblers.

Didn’t work too well either. Apparently the cask lid blew out after a fortnight at sea and that was still 6 weeks shy of the funeral.....

Since Guillaume le conquerant, no chance for the french guys. Even the attempt to put back the King of Scotland in place at Culloden went wrong.
Hopefully, we can now do that in a peaceful way, we have Eurostar

Since you ask, no. But in a former life I was one of a few who entertained some US military counterparts over a 3 day joint conference. It included dinner in Nelson’s cabin thanks to an RN colleague and I did extra homework after the personalised tour. And Beatty insisted it was Brandy, not Rum, as the superior preservative.

Psst. It was joint Crowns from 1603 onwards. And only the SNP want to believe it was England v Scotland. It was FAR more complicated. The Duke of Cumberland was nigh on a bleedin’ German!
