Hi everyone so quick description...bought a 1999 tiger 855i with 32k on her pretty tidy for the year and miles came with every previous mot and odds and sods had head gasket and valve stem seals done in 2014 no evidence of valves checked though or recent service so i dumped the oil changed the filter fresh oil removed the tank ( wish id emptied it first ) removed airbox and filter filter didnt look very old removed coil sticks and plugs found new plugs fitted now at this point my boy comes running in with the phone and its work "can i work this evening ? " hmm well ive just bought the bike so the extra hrs will help so i start sticking her back together everything back i start her up...she fires straight up BUT the engine management light is now on ?? And she dont sound like she did 2 hours before !! So i did a quick search on the net and found a demo version of tune ecu and i already own a cable so i download the android version for my phone hook it all up and get the error code p0353 ignition coil 3 malfunction and p1353 ignition coil 3 open circuit or short circuit to ground ? So i don my flash super hero outfit and whip the tank and air filter back off coil 3 out plug out ground it too the frame hit the starter nice bright spark ????
New plug i had to hand back in coil on fire her back up no change ..getting frustrated now so while its still running i pop the lead off no change push it back on and theres a very small and brief change in engine tone so pop coil 2 lead off instant drop in revs and running really rough so swap the coils over thinking it would move cylinder Nope still not running on 3 checked for fuel even squirted a bit of petrol into cylinder 3 no change what am i missing ????

Ok so quick update ive been checking over a few things and found the valve clearances are tight on both inlet and exhaust i also found the bracket that sits over the cam chain had 3 torx bits all hanging out and one missing so not the best news as now gonna have to drop the sump to see if its dropped in there or last owner had just misplaced it so my run of bad luck with triumphs look to be back

No worries buddy apart from the strange misfire the bike did run fine all be it a little noisey i think i may have caught it before things got a whole lot worse as the 2 outer torx bits were literally held in by 3 threads and the 1 closer to the buckets weren't much better so next job will be drop the sump to see if the missing one is in there and then get on too the shims im struggling to find much in the way of workshop guides and correct procedure for timing marks though ?

Cheers for advice guys il certainly check out the site but for now the lights out and not come back i think the fact that there was a very small drop in idle when the coil stick was removed on 3 could be down to the valve clearences being so tight but thats going to be sorted this week and hopefully things will improve
